Who would have thought? Ford Racing has a sense of humor {Autoblog}
May 10th 2008 4:38PM The FR500S is a lightweight Mustang build for serious road racing and I don't think it's street legal. It's quite a bit lighter than the standard street models.

May 9th 2008 12:16AM Wow, drooling over vans? What next?
P.S. - Dodge Sprinters are everywhere here, you can't throw a rock without hitting one. Ford's workhorse Econoline van just got a major makeover too and they are hardly shabby themselves, especially at the low price Ford sells them at.

May 8th 2008 3:00PM Allan, you are right about the G6. It's the current generation Grand Am that's wearing a different name, one nobody cares about and has no power in the market or any meaning. It's the same with the Cobalt, it's the current Cavalier without the name. The same goes for the Buick sedans and so fourth. GM is good at scrapping the names their brands are known for instead of nurturing them into excellent cars. The Camry and Accord are an institution, where's Pontiac's institution?

May 8th 2008 1:56PM This is a car, not a truck. It basically has a very large open trunk and it's not capable of the heavy lifting, towing or off-roading of real American fullsize trucks. It emphasizes it's muscle car performance with some utility above all else.

It's Australia's ultimate (and practical) muscle car.
With all that out of the way I wouldn't bet on Pontiac having much of a relevant future, in fact they will probably starve it of product. There's no plan to follow up the G8s when they are done in 2012, there's no plan to redesign the Solstice and they decided not to give the brand it's flagship and defining car the Firebird even though it would have been simple and easy as always.
Well, you can always buy either G8 and get Holden parts and Chevrolet badges for them from Down Under.

May 8th 2008 1:40PM It'll wear the G8 ST name, the purpose of the contest was to get the car out there and some big word of mouth.
I've been to Australia, I've driven the old VY Ute model, and it's an exceptional car. Far better and more versatile than you can imagine, like a Camaro that can do all of your errand, towing and hauling duties. These cars are the reason nobody buys trucks there.
However, this car and the Commodore sedan (G8) should have went to Chevrolet in the first place and not Pontiac. Both cars looked much better before GM put a different face on them for Pontiac, at least as Chevrolets only the badge would have changed.
As AutoExtremist wrote yesterday, Pontiac is dead. And from what I've heard on the inside there's literally no follow-up planned to the G8 at all.

May 8th 2008 12:30PM Take a good look at this minivan and the Mitsubishi Raider guys because that's exactly what the next Titan is going to be, a Ram with a makeover.
Spy Shots: 2010 Chevy Cobalt {Autoblog}
May 8th 2008 12:29PM It's still a Cavalier with another name. I'd like to see GM produce a compact car as stylish as the Solstice and Sky instead of the Honda-me-too looks of the Blandbalt.
First Peek: 2009 Dodge Ram R/T {Autoblog}
May 8th 2008 12:27PM That is one seriously good looking truck. Chrysler makes a lot of crap right now but they hit the new Ram out of the park along with the Challenger. It's just a shame they didn't do the same with the Sebring and Avenger.
GM RWD Update: FWD Impala remains, Zeta to merge with Sigma {Autoblog}
May 5th 2008 8:04PM I've seen what the next Impala looks like and can confirm Motor Trend is correct, it is sadly FWD. It also looks like a cross between a Holden and the new Malibu, not exactly ground-breaking or distinctive. It will disappoint classic Impala fans and won't give fans of American RWD a reason to defect from the 300C or Charger.
If GM didn't have so many brands selling so many trucks, SUVs and crossovers CAFE and producing a real Impala wouldn't be an issue.
But GM decided it's more important to rebadge a 16MPG crossover four times to compete with itself in the market instead.
The sooner GM gets serious about it's marketshare, it's company structure and takes radical action to fix it the better off the company will be. Or it will be in C11, it's inevitable.
