Spy Shots: Honda CR-V {Autoblog}

Jun 13th 2006 11:09AM Hey DK 97, how is he telling it like it is if you think he's wrong and Honda is in fact borrowing from three other companies? Every time just about anything comes out, you're gonna have at least a couple people saying "it looks like this or that or 2/3rd this plus 1/6th of that and 1/6th of another". Honestly, once you've got 3 cars in your list of "it looks like" i think you're trying too hard. Now there are some pretty obvious cases of lack of originality and blatant copying of designs, sometimes obviously on purpose, but with thousands of different cars having been made over the past few years, how often are we actually gonna see a car that doesn't "borrow" an aspect of its design from something that hasn't already been done?

I would also take a CX-7 over this car.

Video: Top Gear attempts 800 miles on a single tank {Autoblog}

Jun 12th 2006 10:24PM people who go through the trouble to post something just to bitch about having already seen something before have got to relax and just keep scrolling down the page next time. Autoblog.com is a free site and doesn't owe you anything, if you don't like them posting stuff like this, then stop visiting the site, and certainly stop bitching. Bitching is annoying, so annoying that its got me bitching about bitching.

I think i read on the Top Gear more recently that the new diesel XJ was able to get a bit over 1000 miles on one tank.
I haven't watched the video yet, (yes that's right, some people haven't seen this before and wouldn't have if it weren't for autoblog posting it), but i'm assuming from Autoblog's write up that this is a sort of "up yours" to the hybrid crowd. I'd just like to point out that there's nothing stopping anybody from making a hybrid TDI A8. Then Clarkson could stop and piss as many times as he'd wish cause he wouldn't be wasting as much energy in the brakes.

Hydrogen fuel cells are the wave of the future - just not the near future {Autoblog}

Jun 10th 2006 4:54PM Mal-
While there are a couple examples of IC engines running on hydrogen right now, like what jiim was talking about, hydrogen fuel cells are what most people are looking at as the wave of the future like the headline states, and those don't actually combust the hydrogen. They convert hydrogen into electricity directly through the use of a proton exchange membrane.... i'm sure howstuffworks.com has a great explanation.

Yet more on the Corvette Blue Devil... or should we say Sting Ray? {Autoblog}

Jun 7th 2006 9:48PM i heard the same thing Tony. So... the only logical answer is that the Sting Ray will be a hard top chevy Solstice with a supercharged 7.0L V8, obviously.

Ford cancels, delays vehicles in the interests of bolder design {Autoblog}

Jun 6th 2006 8:40AM all of this is old news... except maybe the mercury freestyle... but that one's getting confusing now, what with cancellations and uncancellations. I've seen this "news" on a couple sites in the past few days, and it makes me think its just rehashing old news about plans that have since changed. We heard about SVT being brought down to two vehicles, a mustang and a truck, a few weeks ago, and have since heard that an SVT Fusion and Edge could show up.

I've also knows about the delays for the mustang and the B-car for at least a month as well.

Audi TT pics galore! All high rez {Autoblog}

Jun 6th 2006 7:48AM i'd say i see a fair deal of resemblance to the Focus ST, the fender bulges, the headlights, the V-shaped crease in the hood leading down to the grill... those lights in the intakes too, i guess. Looks very nice to me... much nicer proportions than the old one, much less cartoonish. Almost like a porsche.

Hydrogen: Hope or hype? {Autoblog}

May 27th 2006 6:05PM Hybrids could provide a seamless TRANSITION to the elimination of dependence on fossil fuels. Plug-in hybrids, that is. Build a plug in hybrid today and it might be able to go 50 miles without turning on the ICE. A couple years down the line, improved battery technology and overall vehicle efficiency might bring that up to 100 miles, and then the vast majority of cars would never be burning any gas as most cars don't drive any more than that before having a chance to recharge. The gas tank (which, by the way could be filled with any other alternative fuel) would only be there for those rare long trips. Eventually, the benefits of ditching the ICE and the gas tank and all the complicated pieces coupling the two drives would outweigh any benefits in terms of long range driving abilities you get from keeping the ICE.

Granted there's still the issue of where the electricity is coming from, but that applies to both hydrogen power and straight electric power, and going from electricity to hydrogen back to electricity is definitely less efficient than just sticking with electric. Some places do have fossil fuel-less electricity, and improvements in that area aren't so hard to imagine, just needs a lot of investment.

I'm happy to see that after about 2 years of ranting on the internet, i'm no longer all that alone in terms of skepticism towards hydrogen power.

CONFIRMED: Ford considering plug-in Escape Hybrid {Autoblog}

May 13th 2006 10:39PM There are many parts of the world that produce electricity in a relatively clean way. Even if all the electricity came from coal fire plants, i'm willing to bet its easier to control the emissions of a huge stationary plant than it is for millions of tiny engines running all over the place.

"John Smith"... dude you gotta talk less. or at least use less caps lock.

CONFIRMED: Ford considering plug-in Escape Hybrid {Autoblog}

May 13th 2006 6:00PM "100+ mpg"? Dude, you drive that thing the right way and you could never have to burn any gas at all. Its basically an electric car with a gas engine for back up when you need the extra power or extra range.

The driving away with the plug thing is so stupid. Do we worry about people driving away with the pump nozzle still in the gas cap? Wouldn't be too hard to have the car detect when its plugged in and prevent the car from moving.

Ford should really go after this.

Battle of the sexes a wash when it comes to car care {Autoblog}

May 12th 2006 6:29PM i'm just wondering about the wording they used there. "So many people answered incorrectly..." What if you compared how many people answered correctly? Maybe men are just more likely to pretend they know what they're talking about rather than saying i don't know, cause stereotypes would make them feel like they should know the answer. Maybe men answered 2/3's incorrect and 1/3 correct, while women answered 1/3 incorrect but 2/3's "I don't know".
Just a thought.
