Mitsubishi EVO goes all-electric {Autoblog}

Nov 9th 2006 1:14AM Um... Doglet, TheChaz is speaking to exactly WHY the telsa doesn't have in wheel motors, read his quote again, telsa ISN'T using in wheel motors because they indicate in wheel motors DO affect handling. Given the fact that Telsa IS selling electric cars now, and has sold through their firs phase, i'd wager they might just know what they're talking about vs, say, a company with aspirations to be in telsa's place five years from now. There was a great article which came out when the telsa was released pertaining to just why telsa could stand to become a player in the automotive industry if they can get their costs down and volume up on their new few models, specifically because they are far ahead of any major automotive company in terms of batteries and power management specifically because they are a very well funded thinktank/design firm/startup in the heart of the silicon valley.

Reports: Audi R8 going diesel {Autoblog}

Nov 8th 2006 2:50AM it wont, give audi has a decent history of their V8s, and V10s being much sorter then the conventional (ie the V10 in the S6/S8 as 7" shorter then the V10 in the viper - for fun).

per the weight issue, the V12 TDI currently already alloted to an Audi, in the Q7, is putting out almost the same HP as the gallardo and over twice the torque... thus I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that, with over 700 ft lbs of torque, the weight increase may be acceptable.

BMW M5 shifts old-school {Autoblog}

Nov 7th 2006 11:25AM About Damn Time. Most reviews of the M5 i've read have lamented he
fact that it takes up to 40 seconds just to finish setting the right
preferences through the SMG and iDrive (ie topgear's primary
complaint about the M5/M6). Here's to hoping the manual can return
some of bmw's ultimate driving prowess to this car allowing the
fortunate few who own it to just drive the damn thing.

For those unaware, go ahead and scroll to 6:30 on this bit:

I'm sure they're exaggerating a tad but this isn't the first time i've heard an automotive reviewer express this complaint.

V-Dub may pimp der own autos {Autoblog}

Nov 6th 2006 10:08AM very possible, people at APR have been hinting at something in the works with VW that would be offered through dealers for a while now. I'd love to see some sort of TRD type option, especially given the very impressive performance gains vw's after-market offers for limited funds (thanks mostly to their use of power-plants like the 2.0T)

Where's Rondo? Kia sells three in the U.S. {Autoblog}

Nov 6th 2006 12:17AM I own two of them.

Chinese Byd for entry into sports car market {Autoblog}

Nov 5th 2006 1:18PM Given the current chinese business model of stealing/copying intellectual property or simply buying companies outright (ie ibm) i'm curious why ANYONE would be surprised at the lack of originality in these cars. This is CHINA, where they release exact copies of other companies cars prior to said cars making it to market.

Spy Shots: Ford Mondeo exits the building {Autoblog}

Nov 5th 2006 12:36AM #32, so true, I have yet to hear a coherent retort by ford as to why the Europeans get all the attractive cars. At least the Fusion is a step forward!

Nissan Sentra SE-R to debut in L.A. {Autoblog}

Nov 4th 2006 11:02PM "It's not just about outright power ratings, it's about *where* the power accessible in the rev range and for how long."

Yeah... preaching to the choir here :)

"Floor it at 2000 rpm. Major thrust. 4000? Same deal. 5000? Yup. 6000. Uh-huh. Question it with a stab of your right foot, and the answer is always the same: lots of push-you-back-in-the-seat torque." _automobilemag

I think most of autoblog's readers are aware of the importance of the availability of torque, and given there are a few other options out there with very capable flat torque curve, I think most people who would line up to drive/buy the SE-R would already be cognizant of the availability of power.

Nissan Sentra SE-R to debut in L.A. {Autoblog}

Nov 4th 2006 9:20PM #13 that was sarcasm, i've got a 2.0T in a few of my cars so i'm well aware there are engines putting out over 200hp/tq at, say, 1/2 the displacement of the 4l u mentioned.
