Autocross carnage - GT3 takes out a WRX, Celica GT, A3 {Autoblog}

Apr 25th 2007 11:07AM The owner of the Porsche is going to be responsible, the insurance won't cover damage incurred during a "race" even if it was just a parking lot autocross.

I've run open track events with Porsche owners before, for every decent driver, there's 15 of them who have too much money and think they are the cat's ass. Their overinflated egos can't allow them to be passed by guys in less expensive cars so they typically over drive them and go off track. Luckily most of the time either there is no damage, or they damage their own cars and no one elses'.

In this case, mister rich boy wanted to show off how great his car was and gave the keys to his moron friend who doesn't know the brake pedal from the clutch, you get what you deserve and now he'll be paying for 3 damaged cars and his own which is probably a $50k repair as parts for those exotics aren't cheap.

Final car list for Forza Motorsports 2 announced {Autoblog}

Apr 23rd 2007 11:11PM Not super impressed with the video of Forza 2, I have played the GTHD demo and it looks much better, though it would be nice for a track or two more to play on.

One really disappointing aspect of video I just watched on Forza is the "on/off switch" that appears to be the glowing of the rotors when braking. They don't start glowing red the second you hit the brakes and the backs don't get nearly as hot as the fronts.

If the rest of the effects in the game are as lame, I'll be even more happy I got the PS3 instead of the 360.

PS, I heard that GT5 is still based off GT4 but that another version is close behind that is way better than anything else out there.

Aerodynamic dyslexia {Autoblog}

Apr 20th 2007 10:07PM No one even commented on the negative camber he has dialed into the front end. Maybe he was just at the track and couldn't understand why his lap times doubled after the addition of his new wing.

Seriously though, this thing is much more dangerous than the crap tastic plastic wing that's probably held on with double sided tape on the decklid, funny he spent his money on that wing instead of getting the front end repaired.

New Ford study is evidence of improving quality {Autoblog}

Apr 19th 2007 1:36AM Tony,

Actually you do buy quality. You buy better parts from better suppliers and hold both them and your engineers/assemblers responsible when things go wrong. Ford has worked for quality of late and it's great to hear that it has paid off.

As far as the comment that TGW doesn't mean better quality or that over 1000 TGW out of 1000, you have to realize that every time a customer complains about anything it is a ding against the full 1000. While some cars have zero TGW, others will have more than one. This is the typical super picky owner who will complain about everything from a burnt transmission to a percieved noise that they just want checked out to "make sure" nothing went wrong. These of course are associated with the buyers remorse type people and aren't necessarily an indication of a legitimate problem. However, since all manufacturers are subject to the picky owner, the results should be a wash.

Ford airing two new Edge commercials tonight directed by David Mamet {Autoblog}

Apr 18th 2007 11:33AM Actually Will is wrong in assuming that no one will buy a Ford over a Bimmer. I know of at least two people who traded 3 series BMWs for Mustangs. I know Mustang is a special vehcile with an image that is not easily reproduced but it can and does happen.

That being said, I agree in that they don't think people with X5s will be trading them in on Edges in droves but they do compare a standard nameplate with a luxury nameplate in the same class and beat it.

It's good advertising and it does make the average customer think, wow I already like the looks, now I find out it's faster than a Bimmer and quieter than a Lexus, think I'll check it out.

Gets them in the dealer and it's up to the vehicle and the dealer to make the sale.

eBay Find of the Day: '97 Jeep Wrangler with Corvette LS1 power {Autoblog}

Apr 17th 2007 10:06PM I love this kind of thing, I saw a late RX7 with a Ford modular 4 cam engine at the track last year during an open track HPDE. I didn't get to see it out there but I bet it was quick.

Toyota getting educated, changing Tundra's model mix {Autoblog}

Apr 17th 2007 9:59PM Lou,

Yeah, I did actually drive one of these, I'll admit it does have power, as for the rest, there's nothing there that is better than what has been around for years. I still submit that if I'm towing or using the thing as a real truck, it is plain and simple not as good as the Ford or Chevy (I think Dodge's continued poor quality alone is enough to dismiss it). If I'm paying $42k for a truck, I don't want one that's just good enough, I want it to be capable of anything I might do with it from pulling my race car to hauling a boat out of a launch to hauling a bunch of stuff.

All that and it's ugly with poor fit and finish. As far as Ford and GM building plants overseas, yes they are doing that to build vehicles for those markets. Those profits still come back to the U.S. and are used to reinvest in the company which supports our economy. Toyota is not based here, their money is largely going back to Japan. Period.

Kill the Dream Cruise! Retired teacher wants to end Woodward's fun run {Autoblog}

Apr 17th 2007 4:47PM Why doesn't she take a page out of the car lovers' book and preach on vehicle maintenance instead of crapping on people's good time?

If she got even half the 20+ year old death traps running around Detroit off the road or properly maintained, she'd clean the environment there ten fold over shutting down a 1 week a year event.

There's always someone in this world that sees someone else having a good time and just can't stand it.

Apr 16th 2007 10:22PM I've tried to come up with something but Gilbert Godfrey's post is so ridiculous that I can't even think of anything to say that doesn't just call him out for being such a moron.

I guess I'll just leave it at that.

Apr 16th 2007 8:23PM Guenther,

My comments on the weak frame don't necessarily relate to boxed vs non-boxed. Go to an auto show and look at the frame at their display, look at the cheap, weak, bolted on cross-members. Compare it to a Ford or Chevy frame, the difference is obvious. I do agree that you don't necessarily need a boxed frame but the extra chassis rigidity will keep squeaks and rattles down and keep ride quality better (as long as the suspension is pliable enough to compensate from a lack of frame twisting).

AR, you love to come on here and call everyone who defends U.S. products a redneck, I have news for you, we're not all rednecks. I live in Chicago and drive a car most of the time. Just because I have enough common sense to see a turd for what it is doesn't mean I'm not savy enough to understand it. Your undying loyalty to Japanese products is ridiculous, I guarantee they don't buy whatever it is that you sell (that is if you even have a job).
