Is it over yet? Oil prices drop like a rock {Autoblog}
Jul 19th 2008 2:03PM No flaming here Artie, you're right on the mark. Most people think this is just another temporary recession, and then we'll be able to go on growing and consuming. The reality is that this is the beginning of the end of the current American consumer's lifestyle. By the way, since when did citizens in this country start being referred to as "consumers" instead of people?
BMW plans 500 Electric MINIs for California {Autoblog}
Jul 9th 2008 9:13PM A forest fire is carbon neutral Bill, at least in the medium term. Where do you think the carbon in the trees came from? They absorbed it from the atmosphere and re-released it when they burned. More trees will grow to replace them and will re-absorb that carbon. Burning fossil fuels is only carbon neutral on a time frame of hundreds of millions of years, and maybe not even then since oil isn't really being created anymore.
Bob Lutz on Volt: "no reasonable doubt... this is going to work" {Autoblog}
Jun 18th 2008 8:35AM I agree, with them it always seems to be "this time its different, we built this car right", but it turns out to be the same old poop recycled. I work as a technician at Carmax, so I work on all the latest used cars on a daily basis. I just last week had a 2007 Equinox that was leaking a LOT of oil from both the front of the engine oil pan, and from the 4wd transfer case. Plus the wipers would just die intermittently. And the Malibu Maxx is quite possibly one of the worst cars on the road-torn suspension bushings, failing electric assist steering motors, rotors rusting so badly they fall apart, etc....all by 30k miles.
I can't think of any other vehicles foreign or domestic that can equal these kinds of problems. Yes, VWs used to be utter junk 5 or so years ago, but they're not so bad now. Kia still has its fair share of problems too, but they haven't had the 100 years of practice that GM has had.
Ford UK announces limited edition Fiesta ST500 {Autoblog}
Jun 13th 2008 10:25AM Holden, I disagree. The reason you see so many GM vehicles compared to euro cars are, they made MILLIONS of them, so there's bound to be a lot still on the road. Also, and maybe more importantly, GM cars are MUCH cheaper to repair. Parts are cheaper, labor is cheaper because almost any shop can repair them.
2009 Ford Ka unofficially revealed {Autoblog}
Jun 1st 2008 2:13PM This is probably not US gallons which will change the figure. If I've done my math right, 50 mpg US would be around 60 mpg with Imperial gallons.
Ford confirms Fiesta hatchback for the U.S. {Autoblog}
May 31st 2008 2:27PM Ford, GM etc just can't give you a quality car at the price you want and build it in the USA. Their hands are tied by the unions. Not blaming anyone here, just stating the situation. The Japanese, Korean, German plants in this country simply don't have the salaries and huge pension costs that the US makers do, so its easier for them to build cars here (especially with the newly weak US dollar!)
Ford to make fewer Volvos, possibly in prep for sale {Autoblog}
May 20th 2008 1:22PM Umm, actually, besides the "big red taillights", they are still one of the safest cars on the road. The engineering that goes into the structure of the cars, especially the larger "true Volvos" such as XC90, S80, V70 etc is superb. Lots of use of ultra high strength steel in pillars and door bars etc. These cars can take a massive hit and not cave in to the passenger compartment, I've seen it first hand as I'm a part time EMT. Mercedes, Volvo, BMW-those are the cars you want to be in when someone crosses the center line and hits you head on. Gov. crash data does NOT tell you the full story. I hope Volvo goes back to Volvo AG ownership, they place a high priority on the tradition of safety.
From the Awesome Files: V6 Miata auto-x weapon {Autoblog}
May 12th 2008 12:33PM Rich, the Miata isn't the reason they're laughing at you, they are laughing instead at your stick-on hair flapping in the breeze.
Why hasn't anyone created a 2.0L DI turbo Fiero? {Autoblog}
May 8th 2008 11:17AM By the way, the turboed Ecotec has also been available for years in a fwd layout in the Saab 9-3.
Nissan attempting to reduce markups on GT-R orders {Autoblog}
Feb 11th 2008 12:50PM If gas prices ever drop to 50 cents/gal again as you predict, I'll buy a GT-R and give it to you. We'll be lucky if there is even gas available for us to buy in this country in 10 years.
