Google calls for FCC to force open access rules or block Verizon's 700MHz bid {Engadget}
May 5th 2008 5:47PM They're saying that Verizon is fucking over the government, which presumably got less money for the spectrum because there was a mandate for open access than they would have without the mandate.
Google calls for FCC to force open access rules or block Verizon's 700MHz bid {Engadget}
May 5th 2008 5:46PM Anyone with real knowledge on this issue, if this ends up in court, is there any way that verizon could win? Isn't there an established definition of open access that that forces allowing any device and any service?

Best Buy closing out 80GB PS3 {Joystiq}
Jan 24th 2008 11:53AM Wait so... is the only SKU thats left around, the 40GB, does that have a user-replaceable standard 2.5" hdd?
Xbox Originals are not without issues {Joystiq}
Nov 14th 2007 5:16PM ugh and of course this is just the ultimate incentive for them to stop improving the software emulation, which blows for most games as it is. What a bunch of fucks.
If it werent for Oblivion (which I played when it first came out), Bioshock, Halo 3, and Mass Effect, I would much rather have a PS3 right now. The hardware is much more mature and quality-looking, and is also made much more durably. It uses standard 2.5" hdds instead of a gay proprietary setup on the 360. It uses standard bluetooth instead of gay proprietary wireless. It allows you to install other OSs without voiding the warranty. It doesnt charge $50 a year for an online service that costs them almost nothing to run. It doesnt have a retarded "points system" for buying content online where $10.00 is "800 points". It has built in wifi. The 360 in comparison is a piece of shit, and I'm going to tell anyone who is in the market for a console right now, just buy a PS3. Probably the $399 model, but go for the 80GB if you REALLY value backwards compatability.
I say this because there are finally enough good games to entertain you completely on the PS3. COD4, AC, GH3/RB, and hopefully Haze is more than enough to entertain you until Q1 2008 when GTA4 and MGS4 come out. To clarify, I'm not saying that Bioshock, Halo 3, and Mass Effect arent great games. I'm just saying that there are finally enough hours of great gameplay to be had on the PS3 (even if most of it is also available on the 360) and the PS3 is just a much more enjoyable piece of hardware all around.
Fedora 8 hits the tubes {Engadget}
Nov 8th 2007 12:25PM whats the difference between Fedora and Ubuntu? It would seem to me that the biggest single thing that the linux community could do to increase linux usage would be to as much as possible decide upon a single OS platform.
Hitachi pulls the plug on RPTVs in North America {Engadget}
Nov 8th 2007 11:16AM If you have the space, 1080p DLP RPTVs are still a better product at a better price than you can get for their size. I agree that flat seems to be the trend though, and good quality 1080p LCD HDTVs are coming down in price at 37" and 42". The Plasma 1080p TVs are still really expensive.
Wall mounting is sick. It adds a lot of space to rooms.
Compact $99 PlayStation 2 rumored to land in 2008 {Engadget}
Nov 2nd 2007 11:14AM so I'm assuming that this will include a smaller, even more economical version of the Emotion Engine that is estimated to currently cost Sony $27 each. Can they afford to include it in the PS3 again now?
Confirmed: Rock Band $170 on Nov. 23 for Xbox and PS3; PS2 version coming Dec. 10 at $160 {Joystiq}
Oct 30th 2007 12:37PM What happened to the Rock Band guitars being fully compatible with the Guitar Hero games? Is that still happening? Because I had been planning on just waiting and buying all the hardware for Rock Band, and then going back and buying GH2 and GH3.
