Chicago Auto Show: Mercury revives the Sable for 2008 {Autoblog}
Feb 7th 2007 4:31PM It used to be that Detroit engineering meant slapping a new grille on an existing model. Now apparently it means slapping an old name on an existing model. Holy moly.

Feb 5th 2007 9:53AM I've been critical of the quality of Autoblog writing in the past, but this item is truly awful. Even apart from the mixup over monthly and yearly sales figures, almost every sentence is a grammatical embarrassment. Please, guys - hire an editor.

Jan 29th 2007 8:14PM #11 writes, "The Lutz-driven product development culture is in full swing"
Sorry, but Lutz joined GM in 2001, more than two years after the Australians settled on this car's basic design. You COULD say that Lutz deserves credit for helping to convince GM to start leveraging some of its better overseas designs (as with the new Opel/Saturns. But geeez ... everybody in the world has been telling GM to do that for years. (I remember telling GM's design director, Chuck Jordan, pretty much the same thing in 1991. He didn't seem to take it well. Of course, my comments about the Chev Caprice looking too big for its wheelbase probably put him in a bad mood.)

Jan 29th 2007 7:58PM I guess this is how you define American auto design in the 21st century: slap a new front fascia (and hood scoops - ugh) on an Australian designed and engineered car. Oh well, at least it's a nice one. I can't help noticing, though, that this generation of the Commodore has been in the works since 1999 - eight years ago. Going forward, GM is going to have to shorten that production cycle if it wants to be truly competitive.
By the way, why are so many people cheering about the fact that the car looks like a 3-series knockoff? Are we supposed to be proud that GM knows how to copy?
Fairlane-based crossover confirmed for Lincoln {Autoblog}
Jan 12th 2007 5:24PM It may or may not be a great vehicle, but it's a safe bet that it's going to carry a lame-o name. Alongside the MKX, the MKZ and the MKS, will this be the MKF or the MK?. And will anyone other than a Lincoln junkie ever be able to keep them all straight?

Ford says "No diesel for you!" to American buyers {Autoblog}
Jan 10th 2007 2:16PM Would be nice if Autoblog explored this argument in more detail. Europeans like to lecture North Americans on environmental policy. They claim to be cleaner and greener. So is it true (as Ford seems to be saying) that European emission standards are actually LOWER that U.S. standards, and that the diesel engines they sell over there are too dirty for our streets? And if so, how come VW (and I assume others) can successfully sell diesels in North America?
