Racer dies at Altamont 24 Hours of LeMons {Autoblog}

May 11th 2008 2:29PM To update this, in case AB doesn't, Jalopnik posted an e-mail about the preliminary report of the wreck:

"The CHP reported that the car was in working order. No mechanical failure seems to have appeared...the impact was estimated at 50 to 60 MPH...Cort Summerfield was 46 years old (02/01/1961)"

The continues today as well.

May 11th 2008 3:51AM They'd find out faster then the pictures that got out. Not everybody relies on the internet for communication, remember, telephones.

Life Flight was called out, but once it got to the track, it circled around, and returned back, that's when most assumed it was fatal. Apparently, the cause is seemingly not due to the race. Witnesses state that the car just plowed into the wall at full force, no braking or steering to intervene. Weather or not that means it was an outside health issue, nobody knows at this point, and it I'll leave it at that.

Tomorrow the drivers will return to the track said one of the V8olvo (Jalopnik) drivers, so I'd assume the race will continue on tomorrow.

On a side note to any commenters here that don't know much about the race, it's a grass-roots style race where the car and anything performance orientated is on a strict $500 limit. Things not included are safety equipment like roll cages, tires, brakes, and the like. Tech inspection is very strict about what passes, so please no rickshaw comments about the cars' safety.

God be with the Family, friends, and fellow racers.

May 10th 2008 12:44AM Toyoda, you do realize the car is coming down a down hill slope, and into a corner it seems (notice the car is angled in the track, the driver's head is turned, hand placement).

You do realize the Nurb is a very off-camber, and up/down hill course right? Cars will go through many different extremes in one lap that you would never see on the road.

GM releases details on upcoming 4.5L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 {Autoblog}

May 5th 2008 5:20PM As I quote from a tow truck driver:

"What, 180,000 miles and it's 1st tow truck ride is because of a master cylinder? This truck has barely 80,000 miles and is on it's 3rd engine."

It was a late model F350-450(?) with the Powerstroke, carrying our '98 GMC Jimmy when the master cylinder went out last summer.

Those engines are a joke to the HD diesels.

May 1st 2008 11:07PM Finally a Shelby product worth the money it's costing. Unlike the Rustang, I'd pay 80k for this.
