Rendered Speculation: Is it SHOtime for the next Ford Taurus? {Autoblog}

May 8th 2008 10:53AM Yeah...when it came out, it was the fastest affordable four door sedan available, from this country or any other.

Also, they're called secondaries. The first gen 3.0L Duratec also has them, as did the V8 SHO motor. They're tons of fun when they open, and they make the motor SCREAM. The second gen Duratec doesn't have them, however, as it has oval port induction. It moves the torque curve around to where it's more usable, but you don't get that extra kick at 3800 RPM.

May 8th 2008 7:58AM You do realize that the S40 is the same car as the Mazda 3, right?

That would make NO sense for the Taurus, which is at smallest a mid-size and at biggest a full-size, and always has been. The new platform has to at least be bigger than the Fusion, otherwise Ford would be selling two vehicles that slot in the exact same market niche.

Hopefully the new Taurus will also bring a replacement for the Panther platform, and we'll finally get a real full-size replacement for the Vickie.

May 7th 2008 8:22PM That's because the pictures you're seeing are photoshops of the current Taurus/Five-Hundred car, with a body kit, some lowering, and rims. That is NOT the car that will be the next generation Taurus, as evidenced by the spy shots shown a couple weeks ago.

Honestly, unless Ford goes RWD with this and puts a decent 300+ hp motor in it, with a manual, my next car will probably be a G8 GXP. I'm a die-hard Ford guy, and I've loved Mustangs since the day I was born, but when I have kids in a couple years, 2 doors isn't going to cut it. I want a RWD, 6-speed, 8-cylinder car with four doors. Build it, Ford.

May 7th 2008 8:16PM Yes, yes it is going to be an all new platform. The current platform is a derivative of the Volvo P2 platform, called the D3. The new platform (from the spy shots) shares almost the EXACT same body lines as the Euro Mondeo. Therefore, if it is, in fact, based on the Mondeo's EUCD platform (which is used for the current Volvo S80), it's a new platform for the Taurus.

Additionally, the SHO (if it's made) isn't going to be a completely different platform, it's going to be based on the new Taurus platform. The EUCD platform is AWD equipped, and if demand is big enough, and these focus groups work out, it shouldn't be a huge deal for Ford to make the EUCD platform RWD or AWD capable.

May 7th 2008 2:09PM Good thing that the possible SHO is going to be based on the NEW Taurus platform, not the current Taurus, which is RWD. The NEW Taurus platform is completely NEW, and it has not been revealed whether it will be FWD, AWD, or RWD. However, if you look at the spy shots of the car, the high offset of the wheels (a la BMW) makes me thing RWD.

Apr 30th 2008 9:47AM Yeah, but no one will listen to you, because it doesn't have an IRS. Such ridiculous talk. People are morons.

First Drive: 2008 Shelby GT500KR, Part 1 {Autoblog}

Apr 30th 2008 9:45AM And just how do you know that? Have you driven the GT500KR on a track? For that matter, have you driven ANY Mustang on a track? You have no idea how the KR is going to fare on the track.

I mean, it's like people just bitch about it because it's a Mustang. They don't have any relevant experience.

Also, the KR isn't just about ridiculous horsepower and hustle around the track, it's just as much about heritage. When did you ever seen a King of the Road Mustang with a supercharged V6? Would it have been better to use an aluminum block instead of the iron block? Definitely. Would a supercharged V6 have the heritage of a Shelby Mustang? No.

Do I think that with the next gen Mustang, there should be a twin-turbo Duratec V6, definitely. If I had it my way, things would slot like this:

Base: 2.5L I-4, turbo'd, with 200 hp
Base V6: Duratec 3.7, N/A, 280 hp
Deluxe V6: Duratec 3.7, TT, 350 HP
Base GT: Boss 5.0L, N/A, 400 HP
"Special Edition" GT (aka, Boss or Mach 1): Boss 5.8L, N/A, 475 hp
Shelby GT500: Boss 5.8L, Supercharged, 600 hp

Those targets are well within the limits of the new motor families that Ford has at it's disposal for the next gen Mustang.

Apr 29th 2008 8:40AM Definitely not a bolt-in conversion. The platforms are so ridiculously different, and do you really think that the Thunderbird's IRS system could actually handle the ridiculous amount of torque that this monster is putting out?
