Is it over yet? Oil prices drop like a rock {Autoblog}

Jul 19th 2008 7:49PM Neil, this is not for you. I worked on Minuteman Missiles in 1970-72, then SRAM from 1972-1990, In between I taught cruise missile 1980-1984. The early Minuteman I was simple. You could draw a line from it's silo over the North pole to the target. When Minuteman III came out in 1970 it had three warheads and could hit three targets. They replaced the old Minuteman I using the same silo's. SRAM was introduced in 1970 using 1960's technology. It could fly from 18-125 miles at Mach IV and deliver a 22KT warhead. Since it was covered in rubber that burned off during flight it could be considered the forunner of stealth. The cruise uses the same GPS/Tercom combination with temperature and air speed indicators as airplanes to find a target. Again 1970's tech to fly 1500 miles at 400 mph and get within 7 feet of a target. Tell me again why we didn't land on the moon? By the way all these were fine products of Boeing Military Aircraft Company.

Is it over yet? Oil prices drop like a rock {Autoblog}

Jul 19th 2008 1:18PM This is probably temporary. With the Chinese shutting down almost everything for the Olympics it will create a temporary glut. Also with all this talk about opening up the US to off-shore drilling and alternate means of energy production it has some small investors running scared. However, Hugo Chavez wants oil at $300 a barrel to finance his Socialist/Communist movement in South America so I would keep on pressing for Domestic independence on all energy ideas. I'm down to using less than $100 a month on gas. Now I have to work on reducing the 1200 gallons of heating oil I will need this winter.

Jun 20th 2008 8:41AM In 1970 I had a 1970 Duster 340 and the plate said DUSPAN. That would be the Masshole translation for Dust Pan. My 1972 Plymouth Road Runner Had PLYMTH for a plate. I also used to collect Brewerania and my 1976 Road Runner had CANMAN for a plate. I saw that plate recently on a plumbers truck. Same plate two different meanings. Vanity plates are popular in New England. Most states allow 6-7 digits, so you have to be creative with what you want to say. By the way do you know anybody interested in 600 cases of trading stock (empty beer cans) or 38 years worth of cycle and car magazines? Just kidding! I'm getting a u-haul. Hope the hearse has a trailer hitch.

Jun 18th 2008 10:39PM My two mitsubishis have none. My GSXR Suzuki plate is a vanity plate. "GSXRG". Three more years we will get it an antique plate.

Jun 18th 2008 10:35PM On the back of my truck I have stickers but not on the paint or chrome, (the window). I have the usual where my kid goes to college sticker, local baseball team sticker, NRA sticker, American Motorcyclist Life Member sticker, State sticker with state motto "Live Free or Die", State Flag sticker, One bumper sticker saying " I'd rather hunt with Dick Cheney than ride with Ted Kennedy". My license plate reflects my old Air Force Unit. It's a veteran plate "509MMS". I think these personalize my truck. It says I thought enough of my kid to send him to college (sociology major). I support the second amendment and my right to ride on two wheels. I believe living free is worth dying for. Local baseball is alot cheaper than the Red Sox, Celtics, or Patriots (all winners to a point). I feel you have a better chance in an open field with dick cheney and a loaded rifle than in a closed up old oldsmobile on a bridge over open water with Ted and a bottle of Chivas. It also helps not to be female. The 509th MMS was the munitions squadron for the FB-111A Bomber. The 509th was the only unit to drop nuclear devices on the enemy in time of war. That's Japan in WWII for you guys that are asking "when did that happen".

It was bound to happen: K Car Club springs up {Autoblog}

Jun 18th 2008 12:40PM 27 years not 30. First introduced in 1981. Motor Trend Car of the Year. They stretched it and shortened it. Made mini vans out of it. Sundance /Shadow, caravelle, daytona, leBaron, acclaim, dynasty, 600, 400, Imperial, etc. etc. etc. Everything under the son with front drive was a derivative of the "K", except the H Body OMNIRizons. They were based on the Simca/Talbot floor pan.

Honda Super Cub: 0 to 60 million in 50 years {Autoblog}

May 22nd 2008 10:54PM Take those 60 million and add all the copies and knock offs made in China. Then add the Yamaha, Suzuki, and Bridgestone two and four stroke look alikes that have been built over the last 50 years and that's alot of step-thru's. Don't remember any Kawasaki's that looked like that. Bridgestone only built them for about 20 years. The two-strokes may smoke alot but, they can be cleaner than a four stroke. Depends on what kind of pollution you mind. The one you see may not be as harmful as the one you can't.

Mar 15th 2008 1:32PM I've been changing my oil and filter at 5K levels since 1972. I used Shell Fire & Ice until synthetics became popular. Then used Mobil 1, Syntec, and now Pennzoil Platnum (made by Shell). My truck gets the oil and filter at every 3K because the dealer does it for life at $7.77. It also gets driven the least .
