Jul 17th 2008 7:45PM Oh yea, let's add that the seats are probably some of the most comfortable and roomiest that you're going to get in a 7-passenger vehicle, from what some of the reviewers are saying.

Jul 17th 2008 7:44PM Can either of you two name a 7-passenger automobile that does give 30mpg?

...oh, that's right, there really isn't one...

I guess all SUV/minivan sales have stopped completely, haven't they?

...oh, that's right, they haven't...

Spy Shots: Honda's hybrid Prius-fighter caught {Autoblog}

Jul 16th 2008 9:58PM @motorman

Relatively true, but not completely. The Prius has a .26cd, right? The 2nd generation RX-7 has a .27. Pretty different in shape, no? :) I wonder what the difference would be, in MPG, given same curb weight and powertrains.

You'd think all supercars have a low cd, too, but apparently not. The SSC Aero Ultimate has a cd .357. I think that fortifies the idea that they just drew what they thought would be aerodynamic and put it up in AutoCAD.

UK to get updated RX-8 starting in late August {Autoblog}

Jul 14th 2008 9:11PM Be patient, young grasshopper.

Honestly, I'm not sure what I'd rather have: new RX-7 and 8 both with 16X, or hold out the 16X just for the 7.

Anyone heard anything lately on the rotary+electric hybrid minivan? I'd like to see the Wankel in more models. :)

Low-rolling resistance tires going mainstream {Autoblog}

Jul 14th 2008 7:57PM Exactly...I mean, you expect these tires to last 3-4 years on average, yes? That $200-$300 in savings, divided by 3-4 years is less than $100 year savings.

If you live in average-sized city, you could make more than that in a month just by donating plasma to your local biologicals office twice a week (each visit takes maybe an hour), plus you're helping to make medicines. :)

Low-rolling resistance tires going mainstream {Autoblog}

Jul 14th 2008 7:49PM The tire is still there...it just exists as a 65,000 mile tire now.

I know this because I had a similar brand from Goodyear: ComforTread Assurance. Today I had a flat due to a tire stem rotting out on the side.

I also decided to check on the warranty for these "80,000" mile tires, as mine probably wouldn't pass inspection now, and are only just at 50,000. First he let me know that they changed the rating soon after I bought them to 65,000 mile tires due to their higher-than-expected wear, then he showed me that the tires went from $98/each a few years ago to $150 currently.

Even with the warranty discount applied to new tires (30,000 miles worth off), I'd still end up paying a crap-load for a replacement set, thanks to the high prices for crude. He said there were 4 price increases on that model since April. I decided against it, and went with a set of much cheaper tires, as I have no intention of keeping this car more than 40,000 miles.

Also, while I can't speak for the Michelin tires you speak of, the Goodyear tires were amazing, in my opinion. Road noise was almost non-existent, and they had great traction in all conditions.

Ford working on high-performance Fusion GT, EcoBoost 'Stang on hold {Autoblog}

It's hard to refer to this as a Duratec-minded motor. Same bore and size per cylinder, yea, but that's it. The 2.5 that it shares the same size with doesn't have the same nightmare-ish cam failures associated with it.

Prius to go (partially) solar {Engadget}

Jul 6th 2008 11:05PM Great idea, but what's the expectant life-expectancy for a unit that runs 24/7? Probably pretty short, relatively-speaking

Jul 6th 2008 11:03PM I'd take your 120 degree low-humidity over my 100 degree high-humidity NC climate any day. :/

Prius to go (partially) solar {Engadget}

Jul 6th 2008 11:01PM Exactly. The 2nd generation RX-7 had a .27 coefficient of drag, and was amazing to look at (to me), at the time. The Insight only gets a .24, which is the best for a mass-production car, IIRC.
