Euro-only Toyota Auris gains sporty SR180 model {Autoblog}

Mar 7th 2008 6:28AM jgp: "I hated that hood on the Camry, and I hate it here. It just looks really awkward how it ends before the grille."

what do you think of the mercedes tri-star standing boldly on the hood?

think of logo on the camry as Toyota's version of being A STAND UP STATEMENT. even more prominent, backed by body color paint rather than thin air. the treatment on the Auris/Corolla is similar, just not as big.

In The Autoblog Garage: Lexus LS460L {Autoblog}

excellent points!!!

when i feel and want sporty, i hop on my $8000 honda bike.

when i want a soft floaty ride and acres of living space, i borrow the boss' $100,000+ 24-passenger luxury tour bus.

and for the inbetween times, i'm PERFECTLY HAPPY with my toyota sedan with oversize tires, which trumps all the supposedly 'sportier' cars in its class that are on just stock wheels. (and will also go 3-4 times further/longer without trips to the shop.)

British auto journos declare Nissan GT-R dogs bollocks {Autoblog}

Dec 6th 2007 7:55PM yup. NO ONE is interested. and NO ONE really CARES!

the GT-R is still a superb car, and all the japanphobic haters can just go and swallow their bile. NO CRITICISM, valid or invalid, is going to dent the backlogged orders on the long waiting list.

Lexus exceeds LS600h sales target by three hundred percent {Autoblog}

Dec 6th 2007 6:40PM naggy...

funny that you have to dig up an article all of 17 months OLD for a straw to whip lexus with!

SINCE then: the LS460 was introduced. and initial sales in japan exceeded projections by something like 1300%.
lexus sales have virtually exploded in russia, and europe generally. sure, the numbers don't approach the established brands, but lexus simply has not been in the market very long.

as soul said, last year the increase was over 100%.

the german brands' figures include thousands of FOUR cylinder cars. ALL Lexi are v6s or v8s, with the exception of the IS200.
if one includeds TOYOTA branded vehicles, with or without the 4-cyl models, i'm inclined to think the sales figures would be far more comparable.

and this is FULLY justifiable, considering TOYOTA as well as lexus makes cars that functionally (with regard to technology, drivetrains, and esp. reliability) are FULLY THE EQUAL of any other brand on the planet, lux label or not.

Lexus exceeds LS600h sales target by three hundred percent {Autoblog}

Dec 5th 2007 8:55AM from another forum:

"....remember Lexus is not trying to be like the Euro brands...they are just doing a good job re-inventing "The Wheel"...problem here is the nay sayers can't admit it...c'mon ladies Lexus has been in the game for only 19 years compared to others who have been doin' this for 100 years. If you think about the rate of speed both calculated risk and success made by Leuxs, it does not get any worse, just gets better....LMAO!!!"

precisely!

it is SO FUNNY how all the critics try to lambast lexus for not performing as THEY expect/think it SHOULD. but lexus seems to know their potential customers FAR BETTER than the critics. so they sonstantly hit home runs, DESPITE all the supposed "faults."

face it folks! lexus is from the land that INVENTED judo/karate/aikido. all your criticisms are just hitting EMPTY AIR. meanwhile, lexus strikes accurately and perfectly at the desires of their intended CUSTOMERS. (and likely don't really give a hoot about auto scribe/amatuer critics who think luxury cars' prime customers are all would be boyracers! LOL!)

they'll not only continue to succeed, they'll start stealing more and more sales away from the euro brands, just as they have from detroit.

Toyota delays next-gen lithium-ion Prius {Autoblog}

it is not even possible for there to be final figures for 2007 recalls.

2007 is not over yet.

Toyota delays next-gen lithium-ion Prius {Autoblog}

Aug 12th 2007 12:23AM LOL!

APPARENTLY MiniatureMind is so blind with hatred for toyota, he/she can't SEE straight!

it also happens to be GM who shoves product out the door, and leaves the consumers to be the product testers who have to deal with final development. anyone remember the Fiero?

the fact that toyota is DELAYING use of the lithium-ion batteries, DESPITE their promised huge performance gains, is PROOF toyota won't release new developments before they they are proven safe and reliable.

Toyota Tundra overtakes GMC Sierra 1500 in year-to-date sales? {Autoblog}

Aug 8th 2007 6:46AM
i have had similar experiences of being left stranded with a domestic, never with an import (except when it was my own fault for neglecting maintenance; and they were also generally more robust in running DESPITE neglect, until they just couldn't run any more.)

this, in all my experience with both domestics and imports over 47 years of driving. (got license at 15).

last week was a MAJOR disappointment and near SHOCK for me, as i ALMOST got stranded with my honda (bike not car; all bikes are higher maintenance). fortunately, i was less than 1 mile away and did manage to limp home.

this incident made me think about when WAS the last time i ever was stranded with a car on the side of the road???

PRIOR TO getting a new toyota corona in 1971, TOO OFTEN to recall in detail and list. this 'yota NEVER failed me, until in a moment of indiscretion, i rolled it on a curve.

SINCE then, the record is as follows:

'86 nissan truck, around 1992-- again, it was an "almost, sort of" situation. i blew out an age weakened brake hose when i hit the brakes hard. i still managed to get home by judicious "momentum management."

'94 toyota truck, no problems. still own this vehicle.
'00 ford focus, failed to start whenever temp got below minus 10; only resolved with addition of an oilpan heater. bmy japanese trucks never failed to start, even down to -40. even without heaters being plugged in, they would start at -15.
cruise control failed twice; reset once. second time, would not reset, had to ride brakes to get home. '03 toyota corolla, no problems, other than appetite for headlight bulbs. (cheap sylvania units seem to have limited life.)
