VIDEO: First Corvette ZR1 delivered to proud papa {Autoblog}
Jul 23rd 2008 4:56PM So what if it doesn't retain its value?
Once you own something, the money you spent on it is forever gone.
Insignia will come to U.S. as a Saturn, with new sheetmetal, interior {Autoblog}
Jul 23rd 2008 4:53PM WTF? Why did it post my comment twice?

Jul 23rd 2008 4:50PM Beautifully-styled? It's a start, but it needs some work.
It doesn't have a proper rear deck. The gap between the rear windows and the rear wheels is disgustingly huge. It looks disproportionate with such a short wheelbase.

Jul 23rd 2008 4:48PM At the very least, this car needs a longer wheelbase.
It would both greatly improve the looks of this car and make it more sellable in the US.
I'm disappointed about the interior changes, though--the interior is perfect as is.

More details on VW's design renaissance {Autoblog}
Jul 23rd 2008 10:53AM Thank you, VW.
I loved the Jetta Mk. IV and B5 Passat. The Jetta Mk. V is just ugly, and the new Passat, while not bad, doesn't look as good as the B5.
Nice to see VW is getting back on track.
Mercury rising: Thursday announcement expected to lay out Euro-infused future {Autoblog}
Jul 22nd 2008 5:55PM I hate this Gottverdammt comment system!
That was supposed to be a reply to mike's post about Mercuries and artificial hips.
Mercury rising: Thursday announcement expected to lay out Euro-infused future {Autoblog}
Jul 22nd 2008 5:32PM Actually, except for the Grand Marquis, most Mercuries sell to women, not old people with hip replacements.
This will help Ford sell their Euro models through Mercury. Ford's Euro style more closely resembles Mercury's style than Ford's US style. Ford's US style is brash and overly masculine. Ford's Euro style is more feminine, with smoothly-flowing curves, softer lines, and more chrome (and there is nothing wrong with it being more feminine: I hate Ford's ugly US style and love their Euro style). Just like Mercury, only to a greater extent. In other words, Euro Fords sell better with Mercury's demographic than with Ford USA's demographic.
Spy Shots: LHD Toyota Mark X Zio for the U.S. market? {Autoblog}
Jul 22nd 2008 4:43PM The Mark X was around before the MKX.
Its name is a reference to its predecessor, the Mark II, which the Mark X replaced a few years ago. The Mark II has existed for a few decades; it was originally launched in 1968 as the Corona Mark II, an upscale version of the Toyota Corona (Toyota's main midsize car at the time and the direct ancestor of the Avensis), and the name was shortened to Mark II in the 1980s. Fun fact: the Cressida was just a badge-engineered Mark II, and the Mark II stuck around after the Cressida was killed in 1992, surviving for three more generations until it was replaced by the Mark X.
This car's name has a lot of heritage in it, none of which has anything to do with Lincoln.

Jul 22nd 2008 2:48PM The interior configuration reminds me of the Fiat Multipla (which IMO was fairly innovative for a minivan).
