Why are factory navigation systems still so expensive? {Autoblog}
Feb 27th 2008 11:54AM lad, I don't know if you've ever read the airline safety card. While you can use a laptop, iPod, or any number of cd players, PMP or DVD players you can NOT use a GPS receiver. While it may seem harmless to use what appears to be just a radio receiver it is not allowed. Plus if you get caught and refuse to turn it off, you can expect the police to greet you at the gate. Buh Buy.

Garmin nuvi 760 reviewed {Engadget}
Oct 22nd 2007 6:46AM Though their website lists Mac os support, Garmin's track record for support in software for anything but Windows is lacking. I bought one of their runner's gps units and was content to either log my data manually from the screen or use one of the workaround hacks for Linux and Mac. Just over a year later after many promises the company finally saw some light and squeezed out some software. Tom Tom had all users covered. Though they only make car and motorcycle gps units the barrier to entry was significantly less than Garmin for me. That and the fact that all those useless bells and whistles drive the price up and don't make the device any better. Get a Tom Tom One 3rd Ed. You won't be sorry.
Volkswagen to drop prices, aims to compete with Toyota {Autoblog}
Oct 18th 2007 11:22AM The BT thing is a bit unusual. I have GTI with a telephone button. I tried to find out if there was a Euro Kit. It was only for a hard connection to a phone. Dropping the ball on BT was chalked up to issues with the FCC. You can always go with something like this...

Volkswagen to drop prices, aims to compete with Toyota {Autoblog}
Oct 18th 2007 11:12AM With Consumer Reports backing off from their previous habit of signing off on Toyota's based on past performance and with another round of recalls on the boards for them, quality is all about perception. If people have issues with a Toyota or even a Honda they tend to think the issue has something to do with what they did or it's a possible fluke. "How could my Corolla break, it must be something I did." Perception becomes reality. VW had a run of bad parts from a supplier (coil-packs for those in the know) which they didn't manage aggressively enough. Going to a dealer and pulling a new part that may be defective off the shelf is not going to win you any fans. But that's a different story. What VW needs to do is REALLY bring Euro Spec to the States. Not just the shell of a car and a U.S. only engine, 2.5, I'm talking to you. The Golf/Rabbit has about 9 different engine options in Europe, gas and diesel. Here we have 2 and one is only on the GTI.
NO automaker is golden, not Honda, Lexus, or even Rolls-Royce. They ALL have service shops. If you can find a dealership with a smaller service bay than sales floor or no service center at all, get back to me. Or better yet buy that car. You'll be on the bus a long time searching for that one.
