REPORT: 'Personality traits' of automobiles studied {Autoblog}
Jul 9th 2009 10:00AM Probably. Why do you suppose the horseshoe moustache is so popular? It says "I'm mean, and serious, and tough and angry. Don't mess with me." Well, actually it says "I'm a d-bag but I really wish people would see me as mean, and serious, and tough and angry."

Georgia mom looking to mandate 'newly licensed' magnets for teen drivers {Autoblog}
Jul 7th 2009 3:26PM I saw one the other day that had "No Tailgating - Neck Problems" about 4 feet wide across the back. It made me sad too, because I had every intention of tailgating before I saw that sticker.

Jul 7th 2009 3:22PM Just because a car has a "novice driver" sticker doesn't mean it's actually being driven by a novice driver. How many cars back in the 80's with those moronic "Baby on Board" signs drove around with no baby on board whatsoever? Over time you'll just learn to ignore them.
The real solution is to give everyone a super hard, exhaustive driving test, then put a sticker on their car with their score, or grade, on it. Novice or not, I'm much more worried about the gramma who scores a 27 than the 19 year old scored a 73.
Bigs n' Littles: Inside Line pits Ford's new Taurus SHO against Infiniti G37 {Autoblog}
Jul 7th 2009 2:21PM I don't. Most people in the real world ask "How much car can I afford?" If the answer is $35,000 then they see what options they have in that price range. They may rule out certain cars or add weight to others because they better fit their real needs, but by and large I'd say people shop on price, not classification.
WSJ Column: Higher gas taxes better strategy than CAFE to save GM {Autoblog}
Jul 6th 2009 11:01PM "Why do the most basic laws of economics escape so many people in this country lately?"
Everybody loves "the most basic laws of economics" until they actually calculate the true cost of obtaining and burning a gallon of gas. Then economic theory gets a lot less attractive.
Canada pondering Cash-For-Clunkers too? {Autoblog}
Jul 6th 2009 4:36PM Sorry, we have those annual inspections down here in the US too but they don't make any difference. They're a joke because any time we try to get serious it turns into a "You're discriminating against someone" argument so we just give everyone a big pass.

REPORT: BMW threatening to oust Lexus as #1 luxury automaker in U.S. {Autoblog}
Jun 30th 2009 4:05PM "Real luxury, in my opinion starts at like 45 maybe 50 grand."
I love how so many people equate luxury and quality with price. I guess those Madison Avenue advertising execs don't make the big bucks for nothing.
Having owned a $50,000 BMW and a $25,000 Hyundai, I'd have to say that the Hyundai was more luxurious and a higher quality vehicle. But then the Hyundai didn't cost as much as the BMW so it's definitely not as good.
Mulally: Ford boosting production to meet demand {Autoblog}
Jun 28th 2009 10:19PM " That would point to a model that is actually starting to take off. Add in the much higher markups on the Flex and I think Ford is doing quite well with it."
The Flex already has $3000 in Ford cash on the hood and if you're paying more than $4500 under sticker you're paying too much. The Taurus X (nee Freestyle) was a notoriously poor seller and while the Flex won't be a repeat, it'll be close.

Jun 28th 2009 10:11PM Yea, funny how people cry for freedom and liberty until a group of people get together and decide to use that freedom to do something they don't like.
