Leno fears Top Gear USA may suck {Autoblog}
Apr 4th 2008 3:35PM There's a catch-22 here somewhere. BBC America shows episodes of Top Gear slightly edited for commercial time, but still keeping the criticism of many brands sold here in America. Ford and GM are often made fun of, yet BBC America has no problem showing those episodes in the U.S.
What I'm wondering is: if BBC America can show BBC Top Gear episodes where they bash American car manufacturers, why would NBC have a problem?

Mar 22nd 2008 4:34PM Way better commercial than any of those "I Want My MPG!" commercials. I always cringed every time that came on TV.
I'm guessing among other things the writer of this article doesn't get:
Monty Python
The Simpsons
The Office (either version)
Anchorman
Woody Allen movies
Among things the writer of this article does get:
Jeff Foxworthy
Witless Protection
Delta Farce

How car names are concocted {Autoblog}
Mar 22nd 2008 3:39PM Yes the alphanumeric names do bug me sometimes. Lexus LS600h? Where does the 600 come from? It doesn't have a 6.0L V8.
The BMW 3 has been mentioned before. The 328i and 335i have 3.0L I6 engines. What if they were called 330i and 330ti? Would that be so bad? Actually yeah! And what ever happened to the C in coupes. The 330Ci was the coupe.
Sometimes I wish BMW would just start giving weird names to their cars. Maybe the 3 would be called the Protege. And the 5 would be called the Millennia. Take that Mazda!

Mar 11th 2008 12:51AM I'm more offended by the front California license plate on this otherwise gorgeous car than shameless Audi promotion. Next stop on the Ugly Train: the Maserati GranTurismo with a front CA plate.
Behold the buck-toothed sports cars! For a state that is so notoriously vain and immersed in car culture, they sure know how to uggify their cars.

Rumormill: Adam Carolla to host Top Gear USA? {Autoblog}
Mar 2nd 2008 4:20PM I think you're arguing in favor of Adam.
A pompous ass makes Top Gear great.
Another pompous ass makes Top Gear USA great.
Can we all just vote for Hillary get Adam Carolla to host Top Gear US and just let experienced professionals do their job?
This is why politics and TV in America suck. People don't want Hillary because they find a woman in power unappealing, they want a charming Obama who's been a Senator less than 4 years. If he were 100% white, short and bald, he wouldn't even be a candidate.
As for television, everyone wants to play it safe with people who are likable. I say get people who are hatable! Everyone is hired for television for their likability. That's what network testing for. I'm sure they tested the crap out of the new Bionic Woman and the Knight Rider movie. Likable is not damn well enough to make a good show!
I want conflict between the hosts in Top Gear US the way there is conflict on regular Top Gear UK, not a bunch of agreeable nice boys giving high-fives and slapping each other's asses. I want sourpusses who are picky, demanding, and not easily satisfied. The kind of hosts who have differing opinions and will stick it to the Big 3 when they deserve it, and not fear sponsorship conflicts. NO PAYOLA G**DAMMIT!!!
And I don't want this to happen here:
Apparently the Hyundai Sonata is the best family sedan, according to Motorweek.

Mar 2nd 2008 3:59PM I did say Adam Carolla should host Top Gear U.S. (after all he has "Car" in his name. Wish I started the rumor, though.
VIDEO: Haven't you always wondered? ROUSH vs. SALEEN {Autoblog}
Feb 23rd 2008 3:27PM Ok, I wasn't exaggerating at all. I actually counted the number of cuts in the video. The video was 9 minutes long it had 244 cuts. That averages to 1 cut every 2.2 seconds. Each cut was so short, it was practically a still photo.
It's a wonder people ever read books when they can be entertained by something new every 2.2 seconds. For that matter, why channel surf?

Feb 23rd 2008 3:10PM A comment on the video more than the cars:
That host had the vocal inflections of an 8-year old boy describing his Matchbox collection.
They could have at least shown the slalom scene from beginning to end without cuts, but they couldn't even do that. Please have at least one cut of the car that lasts more than 5 seconds; preferably from 0-60 so we can hear what the car sounds like, and without the Metallica soundtrack.
There were like 27 cuts for a scene that was less than 2 minutes long--like splicing a hair with a scalpel. The scene is short enough, just show the whole damn scene!
