Funai's NB500 Blu-ray player sliding into Wal-Mart for $298 {Engadget HD}
May 13th 2008 3:36PM I'm just very sad about HD-DVD losing. They WERE much cheaper to produce than BD players. (See avsforum) Toshiba was not really subsidizing them nearly as much as Sony is with BD. They really were marketed well towards the consumer. They wanted to create an affordable mass-market format. Sony didn't.
Sony BD was superior in some aspects, but they very rarely have the consumer in mind when they go off pushing various short-lived technologies. They spend billions in R&D and don't care what they need to charge consumers when they finally reach the market. All competitors are always cheaper than Sony. Sure, they market towards the innovators and gotta-have-it's, but you can't do that with a mass-market format. People will find other ways.
The death-call for HD-DVD was the hiring of Stringer as the new CEO of Sony. He flat out said in interviews that Sony was NOT going to loose another format war, no matter how much money they spent. So they bought off Warner and many, many other players. Back in the days of the PS2 vs. XBox, I was rooting for Sony, but now I'm not. This rampant spending cannot be good for Sony's bottom line net income, and it's certainly not good for consumers when they have to pay for it eventually.
Counterfeit Ferrari ring busted in Rome {Autoblog}
Feb 29th 2008 9:01PM The Fiero was just starting to become a great sports car in '88 when the Corvette lobby killed it. It's sad. First space frame, first plastic body panels, first American mid-engine. I loved the fastback. They just got a really bad rap from the oil-leak fire recall in 84,85 from which the public opinion never really turned around from.
There are actually some really amazing looking rebodies for Fieros, and the Archie V8 craddle kit for dropping in an LS1.
Unfortunately, there are some really bad rebodies too, and that's pretty much what gets shown.

Ford lets you Sync for just $395 {Autoblog}
Aug 9th 2007 1:44PM Yeah, this is great. I'm very happy that Ford is doing this. USB MP3 player aftermarket headunits with axilary inputs have been around for 5 years. It's about time that automakers catch up a little.(and even forge ahead) I might just have to get a new Hybrid Escape if they include this option in it eventually.

Jul 5th 2007 5:38PM Wow. That old style nose was very polarizing. I actually read a review that called it the "flying vagina".
I actually like the new one better. ;P
Top 10 cities in which NOT to speed {Autoblog}
May 30th 2007 5:29PM Yeah, Orlando is horrible. I've gotten 3 completely bogus tickets that were complete lies on the part of the officers. And yet, a huge percentage of red lights are run right through. Do NOT speed here towards the end of the month. I've seen speed traps where 40 cars are pulled over around blind corners and on the other side of overpasses where you can't see them.
Tourists plus college students plus old retirees equals very, very bad driving conditions. So, the police here have no sympathy.

Smart fortwo concept trailers prove fortwo will tow the line {Autoblog}
Mar 23rd 2007 11:50AM The trailers would be a great addition to the "Smartuki",:) but definitely not the anemic stock fortwo.
Man, I love that Smartuki. ~200hp and still gets ~35-40mpg.
