Should've bought a Garmin? Testing the iPhone 3G's GPS capabilities {Autoblog}

Jul 15th 2008 11:53AM Yeah right now it sucks for turn by turn but the current solution of Google Maps on the iPhone was never meant for in car directions.

Good thing about the iPhone is that it has the App Store, so companies are free to port over their software to the iPhone.

TeleNav has already confirmed they are coming out with GPS turn-by-trun software for the iPhone and TomTom has a working port of their software.

It wont be long before you can buy an iPhone and choose your GPS map software from TeleNav, TomTom or Garmin.

Wait for the real players like TeleNav and TomTom to release their software on the iPhone then you will have a killer car GPS.

Rhapsody ditches (some) DRM, selling MP3s with Verizon and Yahoo {Engadget}

Jun 30th 2008 1:47AM When will the rest of the music labels follow EMIs lead and let iTunes go DRM free - this is ridiculous

Rhapsody - what a joke

Progressive MyRate drive-monitoring device goes national {Engadget}

Jun 28th 2008 10:53AM It can go up by up to 9% in some states - i'm guessing those people will just quit the program

Progressive MyRate drive-monitoring device goes national {Engadget}

Jun 28th 2008 10:49AM it probably keeps track on milage so if you take it out of a period of time progressive will know info is missing. They will also know if its in a different vehicle because all of a sudden the car would have way more or way less miles and it would be giving the device different codes.

Fortune Magazine: Possible Jobs Successors {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 24th 2008 5:38PM Not to take anything away from Ive but while hes a brilliant designer he may not be that good of a CEO. Ive may not even want to be CEO - he's a designer and probably wants to continue designing award winning products. He would also have to pick up were Jobs left off with all the keynotes and I don't think he's very comfortable on stage.

Scott Forstall seems comfortable on stage - not as charismatic as Jobs but he seems to know his stuff when it comes to software and business.

Cook and Schiller are capable but aren't they the same age as Jobs?

Mercedes-Benz introduces new iPhone integration kit {Engadget}

Jun 19th 2008 11:12PM Your Benz has an iPod cable in the glovebox not an iPhone cable - at best it can charge your iPhone and play music from it.

That glovebox cable is not going to have any of the phone capabilities this set up has since it was never intended for it.

Snow Leopard to drop PowerPC support? {Engadget}

Jun 11th 2008 2:41PM Ending legacy support is definitely a good thing - If I am paying for a new Intel Mac and $139 for the new OS then I want it to run as stable and fast as possible on my new hardware. I don't want a bloated piece of crap (Vista) with half of the promised advancements stripped out (WinFS) just because it has to support 4+ year old hardware.

I still have a PowerPC Mac and I will be happy to run OSX 10.5 on it for years to come - its a great OS - at the same time I totally understand why a new modern OS wouldn't run on old hardware.

and no you dont NEED a new computer or spend money at all just becuase theres a new OS out - there's not shut off date for old OS, your current computer will continue to work just fine.

Snow Leopard to drop PowerPC support? {Engadget}

Jun 11th 2008 2:26PM

The whole point of releasing a new OS is to move the technology forward right?

Why would a new OS have to support 3+ year old hardware - makes no sense (unless you're Microsoft). Your PowerPC will continue to work just like it does today on OSX 10.5 - If you want all the advanced features of a new OS you will need hardware to match. (and no you don't NEED to buy a new computer, the one you have now works just fine right?)

This is the equivalent of getting pissed off that Sony PS3 software doesn't run on my old PS2.
