London Mayor: "No More Congestion Charges" {Autoblog}

Jul 3rd 2008 6:37AM In the interview I saw with Boris it was quite clear that the original congestion charging zone (central london) will remain regardless but that the western extension is under consultation and he will act on the results of that consultation.

In other words - central london CC zone remains, western extension likely removed, no new zones added.

What ever happened to objective reporting?

For whom the bell tolls? The bell tolls for SUV and sports car owners in London {Autoblog}

Nov 15th 2006 5:58AM For all of you talking about the benefits of congestion charging lets be crystal clear - there already is a blanket congestion charge for central London of £5 per entry.

Thus, this new proposal ceases to be a congestion charge and becomes an environmental charge since they are discriminating between different vehicles types based on emissions. That may be desirable but don't whatever you do call it a congestion charge.

And for all of you lauding London's public transport system, while it may be better than many US cities it is woefully overcrowded and prone to delays. My main issue with congestion charging is that the city has to offer viable alternatives before charging people off the roads.

#8 - Jordan - it is already in place, and uses automated cameras that capture your number plate information. No manual payment is possible.

# 20 - Brian - how wonderfully naive, do you have any idea what a garage space inside the congestion charge zone costs in London?

BMW to unveil 306 hp straight-six engine in Geneva {Autoblog}

Feb 21st 2006 9:50AM The IS350 may have the same power but it has 25NM less torque (19lb-ft) than the BMW engine.

More importantly the IS350 peak torque is reached at a peaky 4,800 rpm whereas the BMW's is reached from 1,500 to 5,800 rpm, meaning driveability is going to be amazing.

In gear acceleration from 80-120 km/h is 2 seconds faster than a 330i - that says alot for real world overtaking maneuvers...

If all they wanted to do was beat the IS350 it would have been cheaper to bore out the engine to 3.5L. Using bi-turbo and direct injection tech is a more complex, but more rewarding option.

Twin-turbo BMW 335i in the works? {Autoblog}

Jan 12th 2006 10:35AM I believe the twin-turbo rumours refer to the insertion of the 535d 3-litre twin turbo diesel into the 3-series - which makes perfect sense.

You would not need any forced induction to plug the 330-M3 gap - simply increase the naturally aspirated I6 displacement to 3.5 litres and make a 335i, this should logically provide ca 320-330bhp and plug the gap nicely.
