Craiglist Find of the Day: Collection of Cadillac Cimarrons... oh, yeah {Autoblog}

Aug 20th 2008 9:46AM I'm disappointed that there wasn't an early 4-cyl 4-speed manual on the list.

These are all latter ones, which weren't so terrible. I had a former housemate who claimed it was the best car he ever had (!)

Rendered Speculation II: Production Chevy Volt, closer but no cigar {Autoblog}

Aug 8th 2008 11:15PM I think the front looks very Saab-like.

Aug 2nd 2008 10:16PM Back in the 90's I saw a Dodge Dynasty with a chrome strip (door edge guard?) applied horizontally to the grille, thus magically transforming it into a Volvo 7-series.

I remember seeing a pic in a car mag a decade or so of a Buick Century that had twin kidneys applied to the grille (BMW).

No plans to release Mazda6 hybrid {Autoblog}

Aug 1st 2008 3:34PM I think you are a little ahead of the curve.

Its not that way just yet, but in 5-10 years it will be. By then, I think practically all cars will be hybridized in some way, and it will be normal for all cars to be hybrid, not just "hybrid-only" cars that people buy because they want to be seen driving one. (you know who I'm talking about)

Jul 22nd 2008 11:04AM I love my Mazda3, but realize it's not for everybody.

The Cobalt is not a car I would buy, but it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, and I'd probably buy a Cobalt before I bought a Corolla. At least most Chevy dealers would try to get my business, whereas at a Toyota dealer it's "pick a number and pay what we tell you to pay".

Future Classic: Ford Focus SVT {Autoblog}

Jul 21st 2008 2:20PM My housemate is out of town for the summer and I've been driving his plain ZX3 hatchback occasionally, and I love the precision of the steering. Very fun, and the ride quality is a good balance of ride/vs handling. The shift linkage is pretty sloppy, but it could just be that it's a well used 6 year old car, that isn't particularly well cared for.

Driving the car really impressed me though.

2009 Mazda6 starting at $19,220 {Autoblog}

Jul 16th 2008 9:28AM I'm a Mazda fan and have owned 3 (but not a 6).

I always thought the old 6 looked too much like an Accord of that era. Not exactly distinctive.

Mercury dying: No updates planned past 2010 {Autoblog}

Jul 15th 2008 3:04PM View it in the grand scheme of things.

Mercury, Plymouth, Oldsmobile, what did those brands have in common? They were all family car brands that once upon a time appealed to the slightly upper middle class American consumer.

Today Honda and Toyota appeal to that demographic.

Argue all you want about how that came to be, but today thats the way it is.

Praise the Lord and pass the license plates {Autoblog}

Jul 10th 2008 2:50PM In a way its kind of funny.

To the people who fall for this, congratulations, Caesar just picked your pocket for another what, $40?

You could have gotten your message out for a lot less, but you fell for the trap and feel better about yourself by paying the $40.

Vanity plates and group affinity plates are just another revenue raiser for state governments, and they work because people are stupid enough to pay it.
