In the Autoblog Garage: 2007 Ford Edge SEL AWD {Autoblog}
Jul 2nd 2007 2:33PM Tool, who said that the Edge was supposedly the 'savior' of Ford?
Would it be the same nonexistent people who said that the Five Hundred was supposed the be the 'savior' of Ford?
I can't believe that you guys are actually comparing the Edge to the CR-V. Talk about apples and oranges ... try comparing the Edge to the Pilot or the CR-V to the Escape. Or if you insist on such ridiculous comparisons, let's compare the Taurus X to the Odyssey.
Sheesh.
Video: Live from Dearborn - '07 vs '08 Mercury Mariner {Autoblog}
Jul 2nd 2007 2:13PM Tool must not remember - or is too young to remember, one - when Kate Jackson did ads for Mercury back in the mid- to late-1980s ...
And if Mercury is becoming a 'chick brand,' so what? Women have money to spend, too; why shouldn't Ford go after it? Is Toyota a 'chick brand' because so many women buy Camrys and Siennas?
Besides, what difference does it make who does the ads? If you want the vehicle, go buy it.
In German crash test, China's Brilliance BS6 sedan fails miserably {Autoblog}
Jun 22nd 2007 11:38AM The car should be renamed 'DS6' - short for Death Sentence 6.
27,000 Ford workers have officially left the building {Autoblog}
Jun 15th 2007 10:43AM "The UAW will have workers intentionally injure themselves, and collect full working pay for months without working.
What a complete scam organization."
And the executive ranks have people like Steve Miller, who's made a career of taking companies into bankruptcy, enriching the executives who managed the companies into bankruptcy, and making a killing himself while the little guy takes it in the shorts - all while embracing the title of 'turnaround specialist.'
Talk about a scam, that's it.
From the "That Was Yesterday" files: Jag, Land Rover, Volvo are on the block {Autoblog}
Jun 11th 2007 1:32PM This article indicates that Volvo is NOT included in this proposal - that Ford is going to keep Volvo:
http://money.cnn.com/2007/06/11/news/companies/ford.reut/index.htm
Selling Volvo would be a big mistake IMO.
Fiat may bring 500 mini car to the U.S. {Autoblog}
Jun 11th 2007 10:23AM There's a reason why Fiat is know as "Fix It Agan Tony" ...
I can see teenage girls cooing over that car ... "it's sooooooooo cute!!"
eBay Find of the Day: Studebaker Taurus {Autoblog}
Jun 11th 2007 9:00AM I like Studebakers, especially the Hawk model line - but good lord, what an abomination this is.
Ghosn seeking partnership with US automaker again {Autoblog}
Jun 7th 2007 2:23PM "However, Ghosn knows there are economies of scale to be had and excess production capacity to be utlized on U.S. soil, so the maestro of mergers will still be looking to hold hands with one of our domestic automakers in the near future."
Carlos "The Little General" Ghosn also knows that aside from the Altima, his US vehicle line is basically uncompetitive - and he's really getting his clock cleaned in trucks/minivans/SUVs. Coming out with hot products once is one thing, but repeating that success is quite another(as he has found out, given how Nissan's US sales are sliding this year).
The Little General has enough problems on his plate without getting into a joint venture/partnership/half-brained merger/whatever you want to call it.
Kelley Blue Book says Ford trucks, SUVs look best {Autoblog}
Jun 7th 2007 12:00PM "Yea, I understand that some people need big trucks.... but full size trucks are 1/8 of all new autos sold a year. Thats way too much to be buying new full size trucks every year. "
Dan, according to who? Who made you the ultimate arbiter of who should and shouldn't buy a truck?
"I thought a full size truck lasts a while? Why do people need to go out and buy a new one? "
What if they want the newest styling? The latest features, such as improved cargo and towing capacity? What if they just want the latest one on the market? The same thing could be said for passenger cars - don't they last a while? Why do they need to go out and buy new ones?
"And I bet a majority of the people who buy full size trucks don't even need it."
If they don't, so what? Why does it irk you that people want to exercise their freedom to buy the vehicle they want? Do you not want them to enjoy the same freedom of choice in vehicle purchases that you enjoy? Or is that freedom reserved only for people who **don't** buy trucks?
CAW Union head Buzz Hargrove threatens to take GM down in '08 if... {Autoblog}
Jun 7th 2007 11:43AM Hargrove is a blathering idiot.
Memo to Buzz Hargrove: go right ahead and shut down GM's Canadian plants with a strike. Would you like to know what will happen? The GM plants in the US that are underutilized and/or slated for closure will be MORE THAN HAPPY to pick up the work YOU blew off. The UAW will jump at the chance to grab that work and keep its members employed. Don't think it will happen? Try it. Remember, GM has more plants than it needs right now - and if those excess plants are shuttered in Canada instead of the US because of your militant closed-minded bullheadedness, that's the breaks. You are negotiating from a position of significant weakness.
Stupid is as stupid does, and Buzz Hargrove is stupid.
