UPDATE: BMW North America notified of eBay winner's plight {Autoblog}

Mar 26th 2008 7:13PM Okay, the lawyer in me says that they should nail the dealership on a contract claim. When you agree to sell on eBay, you agree that all claims will be litigated in the state courts in California (it's known as a forum selection clause). That would force this lousy Nebraska dealership to litigate halfway across the country. Why is it that the folks at this dealership could not see that 1) reneging on a contract was a bad idea to begin with 2) pushing someone who already has the sway of popular opinion behind him (and who is trying to be relatively fair and judicious in his comments) is a terrible idea 3) imposing "conditions" on the sale just makes them look dumber AND 4) that by dragging things out they are causing their own PR nightmare, exposing themselves to litigation, will have to turn over the car anyway and may have to pay attorneys fees, too? Why would anyone persist in this kind of idiotic and self-defeating behavior?

What say you? Should Ford sell Fiesta hatchbacks in U.S.? {Autoblog}

Mar 5th 2008 8:57PM I cannot figure out why my fellow Americans are so friggin' retarded when it comes to wagons and hatches (no offense to any of you here who actually GET that these are desirable cars). Why the hell would I ever, ever buy a little micro-sized sedan? More room? No. Less cost? No. Better looking? Good Grief! No! (Witness the butt-ugly Versa and Yaris sedans). What do we have to do so that the US is no longer the redheaded stepchild of the world auto market? For crying out loud! Send us the Mondeo, the Alfas, the Fiat 500's, the bad-ass oil burning Audis, the Kuga, the Fiesta, and, since we're hiring a boat, slip me one of those completely evil Ariel Atom 500-hp jobbies.

A-Bomb: Ariel Atom to get 500-hp supercharged V8 {Autoblog}

Feb 28th 2008 4:40PM My wife was already worried that the Atom would become "the other woman." I committed two of the seven deadly sins just looking at that thing!

On a more practical note, I hope they widen the tires a bit in an attempt to help the Atom retain it's handling prowess-- this would be useless without the ability to lay down at least some of that power while exiting a turn.

Autoline on Autoblog with John McElroy {Autoblog}

Jan 31st 2008 6:17PM This is precisely the problem that I have been running into. I am in my late 20's, just finishing grad school and have a wife and two kids-- we need a decent car, but can't afford to pay the $25,000 that is essentially what you have to ante up just to get into the new car market these days. We went last night to look at a new Mazda5 (one of the cheapest options on the market to seat more than 5) and the 2007 model-year that they were "desperate" to get rid of was still $22,000. We're in the used market because we need to be, not because we wouldn't like to buy a new car that we could keep for a while.

It seems like the automakers are all striving to make their vehicles more feature-rich (obviously, that is the best place to pad the profit margin), but is there anyone who is looking to make a vehicle that is engineered and assembled well but doesn't have $8000 (and 800lbs) worth of accessories?
