Sharp rolls out 46-, 52-inch LCD TVs with built-in web browser {Engadget}

May 13th 2008 5:46PM True a LAN can include wireless, but in this case, Sharp's press release specifically says "RJ-45 LAN"

May 13th 2008 5:43PM No idea what Sharp favors in their consumer electronics setups, but my InFocus RP has embedded Windows CE, and thus a version of Internet Explorer...

But mine is a slightly dated bit of hardware and software, so hopefully Sharp takes a smarter route.

Criterion Collection coming to Blu-ray in October {Engadget}

May 8th 2008 12:37PM @OneLove: Apparently, you don't know much about Criterion at all.

Criterion Collection coming to Blu-ray in October {Engadget}

May 8th 2008 12:33PM Maybe you didn't know that the 1:66 to 1 aspect ratio of the transfer was done at the director's request?

And that because it's not the theatrical 1:85 to 1 ratio, it actually shows *more* visible picture area at the top and bottom of the screen?

Plus, you're talking about a DVD release that is TEN years old! Released during the infancy of the consumer DVD video format!

Yes, it's too bad that it's not anamorphic, but judging from the number of Robocop DVD releases that were subsequently released by MGM -- two in fact -- Criterion doesn't own the rights to put out a full HD quality remastered edition of their own.

Dell Inspiron 1435, 1535 and 1735 leaked {Engadget}

May 8th 2008 11:51AM I sincerely doubt that the hinge always leaves the LCD in that position when open. Side photo merely shows how far back the panel can tilt -- I'm sure it can rest at any angle you deem necessary for viewing between 0 degrees and what is that... 135 or so?

Dell Inspiron 1435, 1535 and 1735 leaked {Engadget}

May 8th 2008 11:44AM Allowing the customer to bling out their Inspiron notebooks with color panels has been a Dell thing for years... It's a nice quick buck with huge profit margins -- just for a piece of plastic that probably cost them anywhere from $0.25-$1.00 to make.

That said, this is a very nice looking design! I'm glad they went with the tapered wedge and slot-load optical, ala their newest XPS lappies. Why they changed the design so quickly is obvious -- sales are down and they're losing market share. Needed to stop the bleeding as soon as possible.

Not sure I like the edge-to-edge glass option. I'm sure it's a beautiful esthetic/element, but I'd think that would make the LCD part even more fragile and definitely more susceptible to fingerprints.

BlackBerry 9000 gets a very early review {Engadget}

May 7th 2008 10:29AM I'm sure that's what Mr. CrackBerry.com was thinking... He can make up a good bit of his money back and then some, with mongo ad hits to his website, being the first 9000 review and all!
