Automakers losing interest in performance hybrids {Autoblog}

Dec 29th 2007 11:40AM Didn't I read on this site a few weeks ago that the LS600h has greatly exceeded sales expectations (like doubled or tripled)? Since it is one of only two performance hybrids currently on sale (the GS450h being the other), I'd hardly think that a convincing case can be made for either side of this argument, particularly coming from the Free Press.

The only disappointing performance hybrid model I can really point to is the Accord; all of Toyota's hybrids, performance-oriented or otherwise, are doing fine.

Lexus IS-F design to influence F-lineup, even though it ain't pretty {Autoblog}

Nov 5th 2007 10:41PM I saw the IS-F at SEMA this week, and I can assure you that (at least to my eyes) it is FAR better looking in person than in the eye-watering photos.

Audi unveils A4 with Yaris-beating fuel economy...in Europe {Autoblog}

May 2nd 2007 2:56PM Slower than a Prius, lower fuel economy and double the cost. Hooray for diesel? I understand that Audi is in a completely different segment, but come on.

Would you like fries with that? Toyota discovers how Americans buy trucks {Autoblog}

Apr 25th 2007 1:39PM Toyota spent so much money on market research leading up to the launch of the new Tundra, and I can't believe that they are just figuring out the domestic truck buyer's demand for customization.

It's not just enough to have the configurations "available" so that you can put a big number on a press release, Toyota needed to have worked out a more effective packaging system for the Tundra to ensure a smoother launch.

It is Toyota, after all, so surely they'll work the kinks out. Still, though, a surprising lapse.

As an aside, very nice to see that the comments have been mostly constructive. Weird.

Toyota's expansion taking its toll on employees {Autoblog}

Apr 23rd 2007 1:20PM Another blog post to show Damon's dramatic flair for exaggeration. Well done!

I've worked for Toyota in both corporate and retail capacities, and while massive growth does lead to increased turnover (which is about as far as the article goes..I have a subscription to Automotive News and I don't recall reading about a stampede out of headquarters), only SOME of the employees who left Toyota likely did so for those reasons.

Retirement, headhunting etc. were not mentioned in the article or blog post, and are valid reasons to consider.

And since someone brought the UAW into the discussion, they are bleeding the American auto industry dry.

Enter the rumor mill: is Lexus working on a GS-F? {Autoblog}

Apr 2nd 2007 1:59PM So is everyone so bitter towards Lexus because they can't afford them? I mean if your only claim of BMW's current superiority comes from comparisons, how do you have any clue what you're talking about?

Just let people choose what they want to drive and stop insulting everything that's not German.

Spy Shots: Next Pontiac Vibe to be renamed G and debut in New York {Autoblog}

Mar 15th 2007 8:25PM Frank, you make it sound like the first gen Matrix originated with a GM chassis. In fact, the Vibe is GM's version of the Matrix, and not the other way around.

Detroit Auto Show: Under the skin of Toyota's Tundra {Autoblog}

Jan 15th 2007 2:43PM I think its also important to realize that the Tundra is only in its second generation. Ford and Chevy have had DECADES to build their admittedly excellent truck lines. I think Toyota should be commended for putting such a competitive package together, especially since they are so dominant in the passenger car segment.

Detroit Auto Show: Under the skin of Toyota's Tundra {Autoblog}

Jan 15th 2007 1:29PM There have been some complaints about the interior from the mainstream automotive press also, but reviews have been exceptionally positive overall.

Jan 7th 2007 6:28PM No 3rd row option, no V6 option and sheetmetal that could easily be mistaken for a Santa Fe. What is so special about this?
