IIHS crash tests small pickups, majority flunk {Autoblog}

Jul 24th 2008 3:19PM @MK

Yeah, that is a tall-looking moving barrier. I was wondering if they raised it higher than the one they use for side-impact testing in cars. Anyone know?

Just say No: Nissan GT-R convertible {Autoblog}

Jul 24th 2008 3:00PM I think it looks good as a convertible - at least it does as depicted in that photochop.

Sure, it would hinder performance somewhat. But all convertible versions of performance cars are lesser performers than their hard top counterparts. This is a well-known fact, and as such does nothing to harm the GT-R's "image".

Besides, it would eliminate those pesky B/C pillar blind spots! :-)

One MPG is not enough: Automakers desperate to make a gallon go further {Autoblog}

Jul 23rd 2008 4:08AM Thank you!

If you hadn't said it, I was going to.

Audi system detects stop lights, tells drivers to floor it {Autoblog}

Jul 23rd 2008 3:33AM This Audi system looks nifty and everything, but what is really needed is INTELLIGENT traffic lights.

I envision a system in which the the traffic lights have some intelligence that allows them to sense actual traffic and change the lights at logical, appropriate times.

With these dumb lights we have now, a car could be approaching an intersection and have the light turn red, even though there is no cross traffic approaching. That is just a waste of brakes, gas, and time.

The lights should be intelligent enough to delay changing a few extra seconds to allow a few approaching cars through before arbitrarily changing at a given time. It should be intelligent enough to change at the best possible, most efficient time for all drivers – the way an actual human traffic cop would!

Low-rolling resistance tires going mainstream {Autoblog}

Jul 15th 2008 7:29PM Low rolling resistance tires were used as standard equipment on many GM cars in the 1980s. So nothing new here.

Prius production heading to Mississippi, Tundra to Texas {Autoblog}

Jul 10th 2008 3:19PM @ old blighty

You're only partly right. The only Toyotas CR doesn't recommend are the V6 Camry and the Tundra.

HItting $2,500 difficult for Tata's Nano as steel prices rise {Autoblog}

Jul 8th 2008 2:52PM You just described any number of econoboxes from the 70s. All of which cost thousands more.

Therefore there must be some cost-saving measures being used here that haven't been used before.

Chrysler plans to idle minivan plant in St. Louis {Autoblog}

Jul 1st 2008 12:54AM This is the problem with the Journey:

Dodge Journey 2WD 3.5L V6:16 City, 23 Hwy
Dodge Caravan 2WD 4.0L V6:16 City, 23 Hwy

I don't see the advantage.

Cadillac CTS wagon coming in 2009, production Provoq in 2010 {Autoblog}

Jun 24th 2008 3:19AM "Power will be provided by a V6 and Cadillac's general manager, Jim Taylor"

I think they should have just ended the sentence right there. :-D

OK, seriously, this looks like it could be really cool, and I love the idea of the Cadillac Wagon that they never dared build before. But if that profile is too Magnum-like, I'm probably not going to like it.

Honda boosting Fit production to meet U.S. demand {Autoblog}

Jun 24th 2008 3:12AM The fit is like a late 80's early 90's Civic wagon. They don't make the Civic wagon anymore (or at least don't sell one in the USDM) so that's the reason to buy the Fit over the Civic.

I just wish they would put that really cool digital speedometer from the Civic in the Fit!!! :-D
