Aug 24th 2007 3:57AM 52.3 mpg in a 75hp Corsa? That's kind of underwhelming. The similarly-sized VW Polo Bluemotion is rated at 60.1 mpg.
52.3 mpg is what a larger, 143 hp BMW 118i can do. Or a 105hp Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion.

Aug 24th 2007 3:48AM This engine has been available in the smaller Volvos (S40/V50/C30) for some time.
A few model years ago, the smallest diesel in the S60/V70 was a detuned version of the 2.4 5-cylinder diesel. I have driven it, it's torquey and sounds awesome.

Chrysler evaluating diesel powered 300 in US market {Autoblog Green}
Jun 10th 2007 7:59AM The linked article gets a few facts wrong: The engine isn't made by Bosch; the injection system is. The engine is Mercedes-made, as is the 5-speed automatic. Diesel 300s have been available for years in Europe, and are much more popular than all the other engines combined. Made in Austria, though.
Would be entirely feasible as an US-market model TODAY - the engine is already US emissions certified.
