Officially Official: Opel Flextreme Concept - 40g/km of CO2 and two Segways in the trunk! {Autoblog}

Sep 11th 2007 3:44PM Despite being a U.S. citizen/resident, I much prefer the Flextreme's styling over the Volt's. The only part I don't like is the rear-view-blocking center pillar due to the butterfly cargo doors. However, that's a concept feature that likely won't make it to production, so I hope GM goes with a more traditional hatch or clamshell for the cargo doors.

I'm presently saving up to buy a PHEV in 2010 (and hoping my current car lasts that long); either a VentureOne trike or an E-Flex car. At present, my clear favorite is the Flextreme, which will hopefully be available in the U.S., perhaps branded as a Saturn.

Sep 11th 2007 3:30PM Many interesting comments on an interesting vehicle.

I have to say that despite being a U.S. citizen & resident, I much prefer the Flextreme's styling over the Volt's. The only part I don't like is the rear-view-blocking center pillar due to the butterfly cargo doors. However, as others have mentioned, many concept features likely won't make it to production, so I hope GM goes with a more traditional hatch or clamshell for the cargo doors.

Jun 5th 2007 4:59PM Nice-looking compact SUV with decent mileage. Thanks for the review, though I have to admit I'm unfamiliar with the terms "fly compliant" and "fly even".

Jun 1st 2007 4:44PM A recent article on fool.com also mentions the 12% consumption drop around 1980, and attributes it to conservation efforts, including implementation of auto efficiency standards (yay!) and speed limits (boo!).

Actually, when adjusted for inflation, we're getting close to the all-time high:

Regarding telecommuting, those who do so once per week are already reducing their consumption by 20%! Of course, that's ignoring weekend driving, but it's a significant drop already now instead of 2017.

So, you want an older Vespa. Be careful out there! {Autoblog Green}

Apr 12th 2007 4:21PM If you want an electric scooter with Vespa style, get an EVT-168:

I've got over 1200 miles on mine now. My early impressions from a few months ago:

The scooter's growing on me more and more. In summary, it's not as good as driving a car, but better than riding the bus or a bicycle.

Feb 5th 2007 2:06PM Andrew, that's just an advertising pic, but your point is well-taken. I mentioned elsewhere that I installed a ScanGauge in my car over a year ago, and have achieved a mileage improvement of over 10%, due to modifying my driving style thanks to the real-time feedback.

Jan 15th 2007 3:17PM Most people who presently drive a car to work may not find this concept useful. However, I've found the EVT scooters (with luggage carrier) to be a somewhat decent alternative to a car - for some trips. In case anyone's interested, I wrote up some of my experiences here, with links for further info:

Apologies to those who've already seen it. And no, I'm not on EVT's payroll! Just a satisfied customer - though I'm still rather unsatisfied with the EVT's speed (which is nonetheless quite a bit faster than this concept's).

How many planets do we need to sustain this lifestyle? Two? Whoops {Autoblog Green}

Nov 7th 2006 7:09PM Today I rode my EVT-168 electric scooter to work, as I have for the past week and a half (ever since I got it registered). And I voted. :)

Sep 26th 2006 2:54PM I don't know - the seed was planted in the early & late 1970's too, but didn't take solid root then. Hopefully the increased awareness of terrorism & global warming effects nowadays will be an effective fertilizer this time, though it sounds like the primary motivation is still cost of ownership.

Sep 6th 2006 5:11PM I love it! Too bad Detroit will likely thwart any attempt to sell these in the U.S.
