Volkswagen ist das Auto {Autoblog}
Apr 3rd 2008 7:36AM The product is the product; the dogs will either eat it or they won't.
But Max VW is cute as a Bug. Sucked me right in; took the stupid poll, read the results, like a complete idiot.
When there is a VW that's competing with Hyundai and not Lexus again I might consider buying one, but at least the campaign has appeal.
Manufactured mystery: The Mustanchero {Autoblog}
Feb 20th 2008 8:52AM Well, waddaya know? Here's the very Mustang wagon I described (hand't thought of it in 20 years until today, so the miracle had not yet been deployed on this problem):

Manufactured mystery: The Mustanchero {Autoblog}
Feb 20th 2008 8:48AM I grew up about 20 miles south of Ford's Metuchen, NJ plant, where Mustangs were made, and I distinctly remember seeing a factory-built (or so it appeared) two-door Mustang station wagon riding on Rt. 1 headed north in South Brunswick in apx. 1966. This wasn't the obvious grafting of a Mustang front-clip onto a Falcon wagon - it was closer in spirit to a Volvo P1800E. Never forgotten it, never heard a word about such a car or seen a photo. Did Ford experiment with Mustang derivatives, like this ute? Maybe yes ... maybe no ...

May 9th 2006 12:11PM I believe that's the Cannonball BAKER Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash you're referring to ... or at least it was the first time Yates ran it.
Ford Fiesta SportVan adds a bit of style to commercial transport {Autoblog}
Apr 26th 2006 2:15PM Why no 1.6 liter Ford-sourced diesel for the USA? Probably for the same reason GM doesn't offer small diesels from Europe, or DamilerChrysler in that small a size ... they won't pass US emissions without substantial, expensive and power-sapping modifications. Yes, the Jetta TDI is a turbocharged 1.9-litre, in-line 4-cylinder with direct injection. It makes 100 hp but puts out 177 lbs-ft of torque. But that's 19% more engine (and a turbo and a catconverter) adding just 19% more torque and 12% more horsepower, and it only costs about $23,000, just the bargain most working stiffs want in a dual-purpose vehicle ... that's why you won't see the Ford Fiesta diesel here. Buy a used Jetta and black out the rear glass already, it would be cheaper ...
Slate.com deconstructs VW's "Fast" ad campaign {Autoblog}
Mar 9th 2006 12:30PM Erin, the word you're looking for is "hawking," as in "hawker." To "hock" something is to pawn it, to "hawk" something is to shill it.
Grammar lesson mode off. My Fast sucks. Like I need VW encouraging more idiots to regard 80 mph on a jammed-packed Interstate-95 mornings in Philadelphia as "like, soo sloow, dood ... " Crawling up everyone's ass-end until we all get to meet and exchange personal data ... and if one of them gets killed, as so often happens, friends and family can pile teddy bears and other crap on the side of the road to express their sorrow -- when usually those one-car tragedies are the result of "my fast"-styled stupidity. Darwin at his best, just don't take me with you, moron ...
