Thanks, I'm here all week. Try the fries.
Future Classic: 1984 Chrysler Minivans {Autoblog}
May 9th 2008 1:38PM I do all my own work on my vehicles. Everytime the wife suggests we get a van I just shudder at the thought of trying to work on one. My neighbor was having trouble with his and I couldn't believe how tight the engine bay was. I think I'd need four elbows just to touch the #3 and #6 plugs. One friend - six kids - had a pair of minivans he kept running. His secret? He worked for a shop that did upfitting for police cruisers and ambulances. He would go in on a Sunday, unbolt the subframe and lift whatever was left in the bay to get it out of the way.
Oh how I love working on my F150 based Bronco. I can get to everything with very little digging and I don't need ramps or jacks to get underneath it. With ramps I can even get a 5gal bucket underneath for oil changes.

Bentley, Bond and Books: Special Series Edition of Devil May Care {Autoblog}
May 7th 2008 1:16PM The direction they took with the book is what they should do with the Bond movies too. The movie makers should give up trying to set them in modern times where they can't wow us with gadgets and the USSR is long gone.
Chrysler turns museum into non-profit, asks dealers for donations {Autoblog}
May 6th 2008 10:57AM Ahhahaha - I hope this now-nonprofit museum charts the events that lead to its topic company becoming now-nonprofit.

May 6th 2008 10:51AM You seem to be a domestic guy, so it this isn't directed at you but at your comment.
The Japanese do make similarly STUPID decisions. In order to do the water pump in my wife's Camry I had to dismantle everything between the right shock tower and the engine's front cover. Whoever thought it would be a good idea for the water pump to live under the timing belt cover and share a common part with the camshaft ought to be dragged out into the street and caned. Why the rice-boys appoligze for things like that is beyond me.
I've done water pumps on both a 3.4L Impala and a 302 Bronco and neither one took more than 2 hours.

Apr 14th 2008 1:16PM If only it lived up to its press release billing. I ask it for a route from Elgin, IL to northwest Indiana in the mid-afternoon. The prudent choice would be to take I90 to I294, possibly using I290 in between. It's recomendation? Go straight through downtown Chicago in the face of the impending afternoon rush hour. This common mapquest/google maps mistake will cost you 2 to 3 hours. Seriously, how much sense does that make? Back to the drawing board, boys.

Apr 10th 2008 11:11AM 19MPG? My F150 gets 18MPG combinedand that's with the sport package 5.4L V8 and a whole lot of hard, spirited driving. I could probably get 15MPG with your Jetta in the bed. :-)

Apr 10th 2008 11:05AM Yeah, so like I said the fanboys get to paint the domestics with a broad brush. If you drink the koolaid then you magicly know in advance which VW will not turn out to be a block of overpriced, unmaintainable garbage? Nice try with the crowd of straw men, too. This is all about VW and the goofy way it builds cars, not how it sources 3rd party parts.

Apr 9th 2008 1:56PM You guys are killing me. If the big3 could use some help in the quality department you want them to go ask VW for help? As far as mass produced cars go german engineering is the biggest oxymoron there is. I'll never own another VW for as long as I live. I'd drive a Chrysler before I'd get a VW. At least AutoZone has parts for a Mopar.
Autoblog loses big cred' points with this crap.
