Ontario threatens to crush street racing cars before they hit the street {Autoblog}
Jun 22nd 2007 3:41PM Yes, it's going too far to crush cars before they have been used to commit crimes.
However, I for one will not miss the stupid little pieces of shit either. Crush them ALL! Throw the little fucking bastards in prison and forget where you put the key.
OR- use public money to build tracks. Charge track fees. Set up sponsor programs. Make it a wholesome hobby. They will come, they will race each other legally, and there would be a whole lot of happy kids not joining gangs or doing other heinous crime, and by the time they raced on the tracks and won, blew their engines, crashed, etc they would be too tired and/or broke to race on the street and kill people. Might even cut down on auto theft in general and promote technology advances in particular, if only in a slight regard.
I hate riced-out Civics, they annoy me. However this is something the kids are into, I think it's more or less a healthy thing to be into. Beats the shit out of drugs. It teaches engineering, mechanics, and physics. It requires using your brain. It builds math skills. It generates revenue. Build a place where the kids can prove themselves and their machines safely and legally. I'm also a big fan of building skateparks for similar reasons.

Porsche officially files for takeover bid of VW {Autoblog}
Jun 3rd 2007 8:40PM Leigh Keiruff-
Europe is a continent, not an archipelago. Go back to school and study a globe.
Furthermore- I think a takeover of VW by Porsche wouldn't be such a good thing. Audi would surely be marginalized in the sports car market. Lambo would be marginalized, Bugatti would be marginalized, etc because they don't want anyone to someday eclipse their mighty 911, and they would like to further harrow the fields for their upcoming Panamera. Also, they would like the Cayenne to be the people's first choice in an overpriced Euro SUV, NOT the Touareg or Q7.
Audi will be compromised if they succeed, because Audi is the German carmaker making the most impressive progress.
You got to get a big picture view of things, not a tiny 'I sell VW parts online' view of things.
British Gumballers forgiven by victims' family {Autoblog}
Jun 3rd 2007 8:16PM ACG-
Why do you feel the need to validate your country's importance? Nobody said anything about Greece- in fact, Greece has nothing to do with two Macedonians that got killed due to an illegal road rally. Obviously you feel insecure about something.
By the way- it is fantasy to say a few Greeks 'own' London- London is wholly owned by the English, and don't you ever forget it. No foreigner will ever 'own' the city of London, you fool.
I have been to Greece. The best part of Greece is not its riches but its wonderful PEOPLE, not counting you. And- I know quite well the Greek maritime track record. Seems like you guys sink a ferry and kill a couple hundred people every other week. Greek sailors slop white paint on top of rusty hulls without even trying to kill the cancer first. If the Greeks were so bloody rich why can't they maintain their ships?
Don't tell me about Greece, I already know. Athens is the filthiest place in the entire world besides maybe Baghdad or Beirut.
SEMA says subcompacts sales are flying high {Autoblog}
Jun 3rd 2007 7:21PM Envirobob: Dunno why it has become the norm to immediately conclude that you need an SUV just because you have kids- last time I checked kids were small and fit very well in the backseat of a subcompact-class car. Put the goddamned groceries and lacrosse helmets in the trunk then what is there to complain about? I myself used to ride in the backseat of a 1978 Datsun B210 hatch. Now THAT'S a small backseat! However I fit very well in it. No problems.
I realize that kids in America today are well um... less svelte than I was when I was young. Lardasses. But still- SUVs are just not needed period, I see entire families in Priuses and it doesn't look as though they are miserable in the least. I think it has more to do with Americans' sense of self-entitlement than anything else. If Paris Hilton were to start driving a Civic then subcompacts would be everywhere. Americans are dumbasses.
Mercedes and McLaren part ways on next supercar {Autoblog}
May 31st 2007 2:11PM The SLR McLaren is quite ugly and overwrought, with far too many swoopy details. Kind of like a Pontiac Grand Am.
Mercedes manufactures crap, however I do it twice a day myself.
VIDEO: Eddie Griffin interviewed after Enzo-icide {Autoblog}
Mar 28th 2007 12:58PM So he crashed somebody else's Ferrari Enzo. I'm not fond of the car, but the principle of it being crashed so needlessly is sickening. Think of the love that went into the making of that vehicle. It's named after Enzo Ferrari. I wrote a biography on the guy in junior high. Plus it costs a shitload of money. The idiot who let Griffin touch the vehicle should have his nuts unceremoniously removed and destroyed. It's HIS fault, not Griffin's. I wouldn't let ME drive a car like that, as it can easily get out from under somebody who does not have an acute sense of it's specific dynamics, i.e. driving TALENT. O well, the other Enzo owners can thank him for driving the value on their cars up another notch.
General Motors Heritage Collection: An amazing collection few will ever see! {Autoblog}
Mar 15th 2007 3:49PM Love that Trans Am family truckster! Panel gaps on them cars are wiiiide! GM's probably the best in the world at patting themselves on the back and thinking their 'heritage' actually has meaning. Too many of their cars sucked and it doesn't seem like they realize and care about rectifying it. They're doing way better these days however, I'll give them that, but with GM's resources and engineering/production prowess and hubris the results should have been a lot better than they have been. They still make some horrendous vehicles and that should have stopped completely a long time ago.
Shareholders call for DaimlerChrysler to be renamed Daimler-Benz AG {Autoblog}
Mar 14th 2007 6:17PM It's spelled MYTH not mith.
I drive MB and will say that today's MBs are made out of Tupperware. Junk, crap, and um- garbage.
Mine is over 21 years old, testament to the legendary quality of the old cars. New ones actually cost too little. If my 300D Turbodiesel were made today exactly the way it was made in 1985, it would cost 80 grand. Mercedes needs to take a lesson from Toyota on how to build well from a lower-cost prespective. Either that or get back to making the very best cars that no one can afford.
Dunno though- 3-series seems to be just about the very best all-around car on the road today. C-Class cars just make me giggle. They look like little plastic toys. And those merged fried-egg headlights! Ugh! 3-series walks all over it, and you can actually work on an E46 yourself.
It does seem like the Germans are more than a little cocky about their cars. If Detroit would allow quality to occur don't you think we'd see more of it?
To quaintly believe that American companies don't have the talent or resources to do well is reaching a bit. It's all about will. Ain't no will in Detroit.
