Apr 29th 2008 3:47PM You will probably need something though like a deer whistle to warn animals and such. Or maybe even a speaker on the front that makes a ticking noise so that blind people can hear you coming.
Overall though, I really like the quiet car idea.

Feb 6th 2008 1:15PM There is another cool device that does something similar to this. It's called TruScene (no, I'm not affiliated with them).
I like the TruScene a bit better because it runs even when the car is off, and automatically logs a few seconds before AND after any crash (Gs on the camera pass a certain level) occurs.
To see it in action, check out this CNN report:

To check it out, here's the manufacturer's website:

At the heart, all you need is a camera, an accelerometer, a power source and memory. Then just set the camera to always record as a reference trigger and restart once data has been logged to disk. Probably wouldn't be too hard to throw together something like this.

I took the same driver's "class" in Ausitn. There was so much information and flat out lies in so much of their information I couldn't keep from laughing.
Most of the info you could tell was straight from political lobbyists without any thought put into whether it was true or not. And there were a few things that were just plain false.
1) You should drive in the middle. No you shouldn't, and if you did that would mean Texas is the ONLY place you do that.
2) Q: "What RPM should your engine be at during highway driving."

You're doing what most every lawyer does. You're looking at this situation from a completely legal perspective and think that the law is the ultimate authority. In your situation if the law says it's illegal to be left-handed and somebody wrote with their left hand while in school, then you'd be all for them having whatever punishment was put forth in the law.
The problem is that legality and morality are two separate issues. Legally the government CAN do pretty much whatever they want whenever they want for at least a small period of time.
What people are arguing on this forum is NOT the legality of the situation. They are arguing the morality of the law. And I think most everybody can agree that at the bare minimum this falls in to a moral gray area.
In an ideal world every law would directly represent an accompanying moral principle that would be above religion and time. However, as we all know lawmakers often have conflicts of interest and therefore the laws that are created are suspicious at best, and often blatantly offensive to the idea of what is morally correct. And this last point is why people are upset and you just look like a jerk. People aren't saying, "Is it legal?" They are asking, "Is it right?" And if it's not then maybe we should try and do something about it.

Dec 11th 2007 11:04AM And that right there is why people do not like cell phone companies. They nickel and dime you to death. And your only options are to spend too much or way too much.
I can't wait until Google gets the 700 MHz spectrum and gives us some real options that focus on true competitive markets.

It's ridiculous to me the kind of money people spend on things like leather vests and chaps. If you're gonna spend that kind of money on gear, at least protect yourself!
What I really don't get is why the bike cops around here just wear short-sleeve shirts. Set an example people!

Sep 17th 2007 2:47PM While those who fly a plane may not be poor, they don't have to be rich.
The average small plane doesn't cost much more to buy/maintain/operate than the average boat for any given year.
People like to hate on pilots because they're 'rich' but it really just proves that you're jealous because you can't afford the same.
NHTSA: Back-up cameras are expensive and unreliable {Autoblog}
Aug 22nd 2007 11:03AM No they shouldn't! What happens when you need to back up and there's a rock near your tire or the terrain isn't perfectly even?
The best method of not backing over your kids is still to
1. Pay attention to what you're doing.
2. Buy a vehicle that's small enough so that you can see out/feel the bump of hitting something.
Regardless of all the sob stories the main cause is simply people not paying attention in their huge vehicles.
