VIDEO: When EVOs attack! The life and death of a seagull {Autoblog}
Mar 4th 2007 1:46PM I think autoblog needs to modify their code to create a list of banned websites that they won't allow hotlinks in comments. Not too difficult to implement and they could also add new sites to the list as more asinine spammers hop on board.
Of course, I guess the alternative is for readers to just avoid Autoblog and read Jalopnik and Kicking tires. That reminds me... I haven't been on Autoblog in a few weeks because the other sites have evolved to be better sources of news and casual banter without the random attacks and cheap shots in the news brief itself.

Mar 4th 2007 11:38AM I wonder how hard it is to clean seagull gooeyness out of a car interior.
Consumer Reports announces its 10 Top Picks of the year {Autoblog}
Feb 28th 2007 11:21PM Value for the dollar? They picked an overpriced Highlander Hybrid as the Mid-Sized SUV. The "luxury" sedan they picked is also far from the best in its class in terms of value... it's a good car but the luxury aspect of it is sorely lacking compared to the Germans.
Granted it's not appropriate for the magazine to force-fit its choices into some normal distribution among the brands, but the fact that they'd make concessions in evaluation just to sneak in some very underwhelming and mediocre cars as their best choices goes to show ther's a serious flaw.
What's ironic is that cars that own their segment (ie: Mazdaspeed3 and Camry Hybrid) aren't on the list. And where's the best truck? They missed their chance to toss kudoas at the new Tundra.

Feb 23rd 2007 8:08PM IMO, if the 4-banger manual civic can't crack 30mpg... we're doomed in the USA. Where are the diesels?
I also agree at the random bashing towards GM. I think the Autoblog "writers" like to intentionally create conflict among readers. But then they really aren't doing anything but compiling a news brief so others can click on it, so I guess they have to mix thigns up so they don't get bored.
Top Gear crew visits U.S.A., will never return again {Autoblog}
Feb 12th 2007 8:24PM Right - a leisurly cruise down some interstate is really interesting for a British audience. And maybe next time The National Enquirer will print some namby pamby article that doesn't make fun of somebody.
You all who actually take offense to this type of entertainment need a reality check, and maybe drink some beer to mellow out.
Super Bowl XXIV: Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo commercial by Ridley Scott {Autoblog}
Feb 4th 2007 11:46PM #6: Thanks for digging that one up :)
Here's a link to the 300zx "typewriter" commercial.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdfEznkmtIU
I found it odd that the Supra, 3000GT (US market Mitsu) and 3rd gen RX7 never really had much play in the mass market, but Nissan made the Zed their halo car and went all out to use that to define their brand from the Maxima down to Sentra SE-R.
Anyway, if anyone can find that old commercial of an Audi Quattro driving around in the snow with no tires (just the rims), you gotta hook me up. I've been looking for that ad for quite some time. And no, this isn't the same Quattro ads as those two different ones of a Quattro-equipped Audi driving up a ski-lift.

Feb 4th 2007 11:10PM Dude, that commercial rules in that it excites the emotion of their target audience (basically any guy who likes to go fast). I was just talking about this advertisement with a collegue last week. We remember this stuff and how cool it is to have such a beautifully awesome sports car available at that time, and how it still looks sweet even by today's standards.
I actually remember all the Z ads being extremely awesome. Their ads that just took an old typerwriter and blasted a big black serif font Z on a piece of paper were mind altering. Then there was the ever popular Barbie-Z ad to the tune of Van Halen. Brilliant stuff.
Too bad marketing campaigns don't go for ads like that today. Now we just have weird robots punching trucks and computer generated cars driving around.

Dec 20th 2006 12:01AM If I had to pick between her or the bobbleheads... yeah....
I'll tell you what I'll do. I'd go downtown and get a Mercury or two. Crazy about a Mercury.
VIDEO: Self-parking Lexus befuddles Automobile editors {Autoblog}
Dec 4th 2006 7:44PM Wow... I couldn't figure out why I hated reading Automobile Magazine. It turns out the editors are DBs and likely the biggest bunch of asshats in the industry. Would you hold your investments if you discovered the prospectus for your 401K was composed by just a bunch of clowner idiots that they hired on? This is just a microcosm of how horrible the content is within Automobile Magazine. I think you're better off reading Sport Compact Car or Turbo Magazine. At least, they don't make a pretention about being professionals.
LA Auto Show: Mazda Nagare Concept wedges into the spotlight {Autoblog}
Nov 29th 2006 11:14PM I don't understand this guy... he goes from making VWs, to making a non-defined-unshapen-Solstice, then shows up at Mazda where his vehicles are so progressive that they won't do anything to define the brand. There are no design cues here that are practical or even revolutionary. The snakey lines along the doors are just novel, not stately design(granted, something that would be interesting in production, but even Mazda isn't niche enough to pull that off).
Whenever Franz has tried to do something that actually pushed the envelope, it was so out there that it was pretty much useless. Did Chevy get anything out of that SS concept? No. Is the Solstice setting a design trend for Pontiac? No. All he did was pull the pontiac grille onto a bulbous shape and he got a huge promotion out of it. Now, he's just taking the teenage sketchpad stuff and making people oogle it. The guys behind the RX8, Mazda6/Atenza, and Mazda3/Alexa all did something novel and interesting... but Franz is just making a joke out of the process.
