Oct 10th 2007 1:45PM Wow! I'm impressed again by Toyota! If this pans out Toyota may have another breakthrough at hand like the Prius. I think the critical issue here is crash protection. If that turns out good, using carbon fiber at reasonable cost, we may be seeing here the future of mobility for the planet. 100 MPG using biofuel plus plug-in hybrid capability would put OPEC out of business!

1. Radical simplification: retain only the Chevrolet and Cadillac brands.
2. Radical globalization: move most manufacturing to low-cost countries.
3. Radical technology improvement: start hiring better engineers, from Silicon Valley to Bangalore, to truly revolutionize car technology and quality.
4. We need high quality and high emotional appeal, not fluff and gimmicks in clunkers.
The ultimate goal is to restore consumer trust in the brand by offering consistent and high quality. (This is very difficult to do, because it takes a long time to earn trust; it probably requires 10 years of consistent Toyota-like quality to turn around the current perception of GM as a low-end brand.)
