Rendered Speculation: Nissan 370Z previewed in presentation {Autoblog}

May 14th 2008 1:55PM From what I can see, it's Looking a bit more like its grandfather, my 72' 240Z.
Like the flaired fenders...gives the rear a muscular look like the rear haunches of a pure bred race horse...believe this will be a better looking Z than the current 350Z.
Hey... beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...what do I know?

Subaru Outback wears its boxer diesel engine on the outside {Autoblog}

May 14th 2008 9:28AM Still believe (now more so) that clean, efficient diesel powered vehicles will be the best power/fuel source "stop gap measure" until a non-petroleum based power/fuel source(s) is/are developed and is/are able to be produced and delivered for use by the masses at prices comparable to petroleum based fuel..lower prices would be even better.
50 mpg ...??Imperial gallons?? 151 g/km?....these are numbers I would love to be able to give for my automobiles' average mpg...
To be repetitive...Is the U.S.getting boxer diesel?...if so, when?
Choices for diesel powered vehicles are becoming somewhat brighter on the horizon ......if Subaru will ship to the U.S. and U.S. will allow it to be shipped here; VW is in process of shipping Jetta diesels for sale in U.S. this summer....60mpg hwy est...wow..; supposedly Honda has diesel in works...BMW may ship diesels here, MB already does have E Class version...? C class for here.....? Audi..has done wonders racing with diesel power......Mitsubishi has concept sports model..diesel powered......Who else? More choices, more competition...should be better for U.S. buyers...hopefully sooner..not later.

First Drive: 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen {Autoblog}

May 8th 2008 10:47AM I have learned from all of the replies but I want to especially thank you for your very informative reply.....I haven't looked at VW in a very long time but did own a 1957 and 1965 VW...they were both fun cars to drive, esp the 57...I just posted a brief blog in response to the story about how far can you drive past the Empty slash of your gas gauge.(posted this A.M.)
I have neighbors who own a 2006 Jetta sedan Diesel power and I do see them driving it more than their pickup...they say they love the Jetta and have had no problems....I have read Consumer Reports and know they are right on target for most all products tested, especially automobiles. I checked owner reviews on several sites and many of those reviews took me aback at some of the horror stories I took to be true...I know they could be complete fabrications. So it was a pleasant surprise to hear from an owner who does speak highly of the VW diesel.
I do think diesel power will be the best"stop gap" fuel/power source until the alternative sources currently being tested/developed can be brought to market to the world masses at reasonable prices. 45mpg city/60mpg hwy(U.S.Gal) should be more than adequate for quite a few years...your 50 mpg Imp gal is outstanding ; just hope we can approach that figure with new Jettas.
To me, 10,000 mile oil change intervals speaks volumes of the manufacturers confidence in their engine, thx for that info.
My wife loves our van so pehaps we won't have diagreements about who drives which vehicle...most our driving, as of April 1, has been city...if the Jetta is as comfortable as you and CR have indicated, we will probably use it for long trips also. I did speak with our local VW dealer who told me we will be able to see one in June and perhaps be able to buy in July or a little later..depending on U.S. emmission testing results...SW will be offered in the fall..Sept/Oct ...
Our current regular gasoline prices in the Columbia ,South Carolina area are approx $3.45/gal , diesel $4.05/gal but I believe $5 or more/ gal is on the horizon.
I know other manufactuers(Honda ,Subaru and others )
have diesels in the works but VW is the only dealer with mechanics familiar with automobile diesel engines at this time...I don't want to wait too long.
The electrically assisted steering...could have possibly driven a rental car with taht feature...the steering felt dead and the most minute movement of the steering wheel caused a direction change...did not like that at all.
You mentioned sitting in a Tiguan in New Zealand... have read that it will be a TDI also...probably not in the U.S. but would like to take alook at it also..if TDI is an option.....
Is New Zeland your home?...
would love to visit that beautiful country..it is on our "bucket list"
Thank you again for all your information,
Daucie

Tankonempty.com: How far past the slash can you go? {Autoblog}

May 8th 2008 9:25AM Once owned a 1957 VW that had the lever in the wall just above the gas wheel that opened the "reserve tank"... not a pedal but a wheel...learned to turn the lever , press(roll) the wheel multiple times and restart the engine without missing too many beats..............the 1 (approximately one gallon) gal "reserve tank" saved me many times.....I could travel a little more than 30 miles before I would fill up with the lever in the open position...then close it so I would have the "extra gallon" if and when needed.....I never drove it much over 30+ miles when using the reserve tank and never completely ran out of gas...the old 57 VW was a fun car to drive despite its low hp engine, single exhaust pipe and tiny single oval window.....the gas tank was full at 10 gal which included the reserve.
Current vehicle has computer that will tell you how many miles you can drive before tank is empty....I don't press my luck with this car.........cars these days are much, much more difficult to restart than the ancient models.

May 7th 2008 11:23AM Wasn't it the Monza that had one spark plug that could not be changed until the motor was pulled?
The Vega would get my vote for that era.

May 7th 2008 10:28AM My thoughts exactly...it's too simple for some folks to figure out.

Ford Europe launches new top shelf Mondeo - the Titanium X Sport {Autoblog}

May 6th 2008 12:32PM For looks, I'd rather have a Mondeo diesel than a Jetta diesel, but that choice won't have to be made. MB E Class diesel is out of the question
45.6 mpg combined average, plus 62mph in 8.4 sec.... highly impressive.

First Drive: 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen {Autoblog}

May 4th 2008 1:16PM Could have a strong interest in a Jette diesel but have reservations about VW quality or lack of quality....there are horror reviews written by owners that make me wonder.....Has VW corrected their aparent severe problems with the Jetta?
Seems other VW models aren't as bad.
