Silly you, don't you know that if Toyota slaps a different grill on their Land Cruiser and calls it a Lexus - that's platform engineering.

If GM puts a Saab 9-3 body, suspension and interior on an Epilson platform instead of a Malibu's that's badge engineering.

To the commenters in this blog no matter what changes the Detroit 3 does to their platforms is still badge engineering--Gotta get that straight ;)

Apr 29th 2008 4:57PM Has more to do with daylight running light requirements required by countries other than the U.S.

Why bother with the expense, the added aerodynamic drag and potential maintenance problems with pop-up headlights when they have to be on all the time?

That's one of the reasons why GM abandoned them with the current Corvettes. They made daylight running lights standard on all their vehicles.

Flipside: Is crash safety endangering accident victims? {Autoblog}

Mar 21st 2008 4:25PM The real concern with the emergency response teams is the "golden hour" - the amount of time it takes to get the victim into actual treatment. Most rescue equipment already uses carbide tipped blades or jaws.
The issue is where did the automaker put those side impact bags (the last two cars I rented had them in the A-pillar, one of the first places they'll whack at), high voltage wires or added metal to reinforce the passenger compartment.
Time lost trying to figure out where this stuff is hidden means a lower chance for survival for the victim.

Kia marketing execs leave company because of ... Millard Fillmore? {Autoblog}

Feb 13th 2008 3:46PM more like obscure versus out of this world, no wonder Ahn couldn't get it.

13th president, responsible for sending Commodore Perry to Japan to open trade relationships with the U.S. So he was responsible for Hondas and Toyotas coming here. A little more influential than I thought...

GM bringing 1.4L turbo four to market next year {Autoblog}

Jan 28th 2008 11:23AM Richard's right. You may not get peak efficiency with running less than premium fuel, but today's ECM will do a decent job of eliminating or reducing pre-ignition, which is the bugaboo for forced induction engines.

Some places may sell me only 91 -92 octane fuel, but I don't notice it on my 2001 Saab 9-3.
