Obama picks worst car ever to come out of Motown {Autoblog}

May 7th 2008 1:55PM To Torpeau:

Unless you make over $200K, you likely don't pay much capital gains (remember you won't pay them on your 401K).

See here: http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/would_raising_the_capital_gains_tax_rate.html

especially the chart that shows what percent of capital gains goes to what income.

My position is that if you've managed to make the system in this country work for you in order to accumulate wealth, you have a moral responsibility to give back to that system so that others have a chance to do the same. Pulling the ladder up behind you so others do not have the same chances you have had is just disgusting.

Dec 14th 2007 3:05PM What about refinery capacity? My understanding right now is that we're maxed on out this and no-one's building new ones. This article doesn't address any serious issues.

Autoline on Autoblog with John McElroy {Autoblog}

Oct 11th 2007 4:53PM I was thinking that exact same thing. To wit:

Does McElroy contend that the rate of growth in the number of vehicles will be the same with and without CAFE? Why?

Assuming the rate of growth in vehicles to be the same with and without CAFE, why does our dependence stay same in either case? Would we not be using more oil in the non-CAFE case than the CAFE case?

Rather than "killing us slower", could we not say "CAFE gives us more time to develop alternatives"?

Because it's not a total solution, should we abandon it entirely?

I don't necessarily know the answers, but his argument is bogus.

Cheap Resourceful driver puts the stick in his stick-shift {Autoblog}

Jul 25th 2007 11:29AM This reminds me of a story my father tells.

He had an ancient sunbeam of some sort and the stick shift broke. So he put in two levers, one for 1st-reverse, and one for 2nd-3rd. You had to knock one into neutral and then move the other into gear.

Then he want out to dinner at a place with valet parking.

He suggested to the valet that he park the car, but the valet said he could drive anything. It was still sitting in the same spot when Dad got back from dinner.

Forza Motorsports 2 demo now available for free on XBLM {Autoblog}

May 11th 2007 3:32PM Mike - see #15. I know the XBox is a computer (I should have typed in 'PC'), but I already have 3 PCs with force feedback steering wheels and nice monitors. I don't want to buy an XBox and an HDTV and then not be able to race against my friends.

I like Live For Speed lately, but this game looks really cool. Too bad it's for XBox only

Noobishness has nothing to do with it

Apr 12th 2007 2:36PM I think in Europe it's a lot more likely to have a company car assigned to you than it is in the U.S., so that may be a factor
