CARB offering compromise on emissions regulations? {Autoblog}

May 15th 2008 2:40AM It's 42-state right now (soon to be 41), as there are 8 CARB states.

And there's no difference between California/CARB Diesel fuel and other states Diesel fuel. The only difference California had on Diesel fuel is that when ultra-low sulfur Diesel rolled out, it became mandatory a year earlier in California (as the EPA delayed the roll-out in the middle) than other states. Before that rollout and now that it is complete, there is no difference.

The same cannot be said for California gasoline. Although California faught to be exempted from the stupid oxygenated gas mandate from the EPA and won at least a temporary stay.

CARB offering compromise on emissions regulations? {Autoblog}

May 15th 2008 2:35AM Almost half the population of the US under CARB standards. Perhaps it's time to give up on this idea that CARB states are freaks.

Ford recalling 605,000 full-size trucks {Autoblog}

May 15th 2008 2:33AM What an interesting comment.

Recalls don't correspond to quality when (Ford issue).

But they do when it's recalled a lot (M-B, BMW).
When it is due to pressure (Toyota, VW)
When it isn't done when it should (GM, GM).

What an odd pattern. A lot of people might have mentioned the Ford GT or Focus when talking about recalls, as both were recalled a lot (the X5 barely beating out the Focus).
When due to pressure, Ford's Powerstrokes might have come to mind and the video of one spitting fire showed up on YouTube (it's a minor thing, Ford says).

What a weird coincidence how your comments came out this way.

VIDEO: Cadillac CTS-V takes to the 'Ring, pummels into submission {Autoblog}

May 15th 2008 2:19AM Yeah, like the CTS-V has a full-size very usable backseat.

Speaking of which, does anyone else think they actually had a 2nd person in the backseat running the camera?

If it did that time with two people in it...

May 15th 2008 2:18AM The one hand thing is mostly on the long straight, where there is nothing to do but floor it. That's where he adjusts his cuff.

Kind of funny that some (like me) say the GT-R is "too automatic" and takes some of the driving experience out... but it's GM who puts up a video of a car tearing up the N-Ring while looking as if it were riding on a cloud.

PS3 firmware 2.35 released, improves stability of 'some PS3 titles' but not GTA IV [update] {Joystiq}

May 15th 2008 12:19AM Hadn't had problems with GTA IV on my 60GB since the 2nd day I had it. Downloaded update. Noticed no difference.

Is the update for 60GB only? Because it seems like Sony's server wasn't as hosed as it usually is when everyone is downloading an update. Thought maybe that's because it isn't provided to non-60GB users.

Does diesel have a future? {Autoblog Green}

May 14th 2008 11:57PM Derek:
Diesel will likely not fall to the levels it once did even if it becomes unpopular. Diesel is no longer just light fuel oil. It has to be post-processed after separation, to remove impurities and sulfur. This raises the price of production.

wxman:
Smog doesn't just come from unburned fuel. We have the best controls on fuel possible, and there's still smog in the air. Part of it is particulates (like result from burning Diesel or wood), part of it is organic compounds, some even comes from NOx (which is mostly known for acid rain though).

Diesels have much greater trace emissions than gas cars. They do contribute to smog more.

Check the "Diesel death zone".

As to the idea that Diesel is non-volatile, that's absurd. Yes, it's less volatile. But it still emits compounds, just at a slower rate.

That's not the only reason for a warm-up lap during qualifying. On a race car, the tires and brakes don't work well until they get hot. They are different compounds that give up performance at ambient temperature in order to maximize performance at the temperatures they see during a race.

Anyway, I think you missed his point.

May 14th 2008 11:20PM Wasn't he just putting the visor down?

May 14th 2008 11:16PM Learn something about PR. You want to build up. First we hear the CTS-V rocked, then a few days later we see the video. Then the faster car will be trotted out and a few days later we'll see the video.

All in good time. And if the ZR1 doesn't beat the GT-R time, well, I'm sure it'll still acquit itself nicely.
