Jeep drops price of 2008 Liberty to $20,990 {Autoblog}

Jul 19th 2007 4:27PM Agreed on the engine and tranny.

The 3.7L is a dog, and the 4-speed ain't helping things either.

Desperately looking to replace my 10 year old Cherokee, but I'm afraid that as soon as I pick one of the new Liberties up that they will announce a new powerplant. I want a diesel. Or at least more power from a gas engine. If I'm gonna get crappy mileage anyway, then at least give me something for my trouble.

Until they address this shortcoming, the new Liberty is yawn inspiring.

REPORT: Acura dealers treat customers best whether or not they buy {Autoblog}

Jul 17th 2007 8:21AM I also completely disagree. I bought an Acura in 2002 in Austin, TX. At the time they were the only Acura dealer in town - and they knew it. They treated customers like complete sh!t.

Everyone from the salesmen to the manager to the service department could not have given a flying @#^% about you or your car and seemed to strive to make any experience with them as difficult as possible.

And whether Acura is near luxury, luxury, tier 2 luxury doesn't matter. No dealer should treat customers that way. I've had the absolute best customer service with Saturn. I doubt I'd ever buy an Acura again, regardless of how reliable they are.

Honda to bring diesel V6 to U.S. {Autoblog}

Jul 11th 2007 11:14AM No offense, Honda Lover, but your name and much of your post exemplifies the other end of the "loyal and blind allegiance" spectrum. For every reader of this blog that touts American cars as the best, there is at least one reader insulting those people and touting Japanese cars as the best.

Neither statement is an absolute truth. The reality has many variables and falls somewhere in the middle depending a customer's needs/wants.

That being said, I am very happy to see more diesels coming. I like Honda engines and am eager to see what they can do with diesel. My dream is to see turbo diesel hybrids. Anyone want to venture a guess as to who will bring that to the US market first?

Good bye baby: Speeder pays ultimate price, loses Viper {Autoblog}

Jun 23rd 2007 5:39PM Wait, who did he attempt to murder? I must have missed that part of the article.

Otherwise, that's quite a leap to make there.

Was he reckless? Yes. Is he an imbecilic douchebag that shouldn't be allowed to drive that car (or maybe any other)? Yes.

Was this seen by the cops as an opportunity to snag a Viper under the pretext of upholding the law? Absolutley.

The guy should have been fined heavily or done time, but I am NOT in favor of confiscating personal property. It is an abuse of power.

I'm sure you've heard how on I-10 in Louisiana, the cops have the right to take personal property (cars) if they believe them to be being used in drug related activities. It should come as no surprise then that a number of cops have been caught planting drugs simply to steal cars.

I could see the same happening in Illinois regarding speeding. Why wouldn't it?

REPORT: Chevy Traverse to join GM's group of Lambda CUVs {Autoblog}

May 29th 2007 4:08PM Zain, I understand that, but Infiniti lists the current car as the G35 on their site still. I don't see the G37 as part of their current line up.

Talking about platforms is confusing enough without getting into unavailable models.

May 29th 2007 3:47PM Thanks for the correction. I had read something to that effect, but wasn't certain.

In any case, that doesn't really disprove the point. I just got a couple of the pairings wrong. In any case, i would agree that these example are less badge engineering and more platform sharing.

The case of the M sounds similar to what Ford did with the Mazda 6 and Fusion. I also would not call that an example badge engineering, but a lot of biased people would.

May 29th 2007 3:36PM There is plenty platform sharing at Nissan/Infiniti
G35 Sedan/Altima
FX35/Murano
G35 Coupe/350z
QX56/Armada
M35/Maxima

I am not saying that the above pairings are identical, but they do share quite a bit with each other. Are all the components the same? No. But not everything is the same with the Lambda triplets, either.

Have you seen the interiors of the Lambda triplets? They are pretty different. The only things that I recall being the same or similar are the cup holders and shifter in the center console and the stereo head units. Otherwise, the designs are pretty distinctive.

And while some would argue that the Acadia & Outlook are similar on the outside, they are less similar than the QX56/Armada. Not to mention the Lexus/Toyota SUVs. And the Enclave doesn't look like either the Acadia or the Outlook.

May 29th 2007 10:00AM Here's an idea....

Build the Saturn at the Saturn plant in Spring Hill instead of building the Chevys there and Saturns somewhere else.

I understand there are other considerations to made regarding this, but honestly, they should have thought of those before beginning production of the Saturns at a non-Saturn plant. Now they will have Chevys, but no Saturns being built in Spring Hill.

If it worked for Lexus, why not Geely! {Autoblog}

May 24th 2007 12:57PM I am absolutely stunned to learn that a Chinese product is nearly an exact clone of another product.

It is so unlike them to lack the imagination and creativity to develop their own design and technology.

I hope this isn't the start of a disturbing trend out of China.

I'm sure the next product we see will be completely original (and not hideous).

Bouncing back: Toyota Tundra earns highest frontal crash test score from IIHS {Autoblog}

May 1st 2007 8:42AM Ditto#2

What is the difference between the tests? Getting a "good" rating from the IIHS does not negate getting only 4 out of 5 stars from the NHTSA. Perhaps the NHTSA test is more difficult to pass.

Sounds like you're advocating lowering the bar. If the truck can't get 5 stars from the NHTSA, then let's try an easier test!
