Proposed CAFE rules hurt Porsche, small powerful vehicles {Autoblog}
Apr 28th 2008 8:56PM CAFE is not perfect and this proposed rule is moronic, but please explain how burning less fuel is not environmental.
Lets remove carbon emissions from the discussion and we still have smog and acid rain that come with IC engines.
My hunch is you said what you said because you think anything mandated by the government is evil, but just maybe you have an intelligent opinion. Let's hear it Seoultrain.
Proposed CAFE rules hurt Porsche, small powerful vehicles {Autoblog}
Apr 28th 2008 8:41PM If they're going to base it on anything base it on the number of seats. Because so many vehicles are single occupant driven start with a baseline that all vehicles should meet and then give a small break for each additional seat. An Excursion gets better per person MPG if every seat is filled compared to a single occupant Prius, but how often does this happen.
As stated by Mr. Harley this policy will encourage an increase in mass and also drag as a wider track will increase frontal area. From a purely "green" perspective damage to small volume manufacturers will not be as important as counterproductive trend to up size all vehicles.

Next generation BMW Z4 to get folding hard top, possibly M3's V8 {Autoblog}
Apr 7th 2008 1:06PM Has anyone heard any more (substantiated) rumors of BMW resurrecting Triumph? I'm picturing a parallel to the fantastic independent motorcycle brand. It's not a perfect comparison, but the charismatic, reasonably priced Triumphs represent a distinct philosophy from the technoladen heavy and expensive BMWs. Both have a fervent following while the hooligan Street Triple is as far as you can get from the mature R1200RT. I'd love to see the same dichotomy in a BMW built Triumph roadster.

Apr 7th 2008 12:33PM BMW, give us a Z2! It sounds like the Z4 is shifting closer to luxury away from sport, S65 engine or not.

Apr 7th 2008 12:21PM I went to give you a high ranking, but accidentally hit negative, sorry. The efficiency gained is no excuse for sub par steering feel in a roadster.
Trucker's Association wants a 65-mph national speed limit... for everyone? {Autoblog}
Mar 31st 2008 2:23PM Best of luck to you Mike. One thing we should be doing is helping Owner-Operators to secure loans for more efficient trucks. It's a bit of micromanaging, but the rise in diesel price is so acute that relying on normal life cycle replacement isn't enough. It's much easier to replace the old tech then trying to squeeze a little bit more out of the new.
Leno fears Top Gear USA may suck {Autoblog}
Mar 31st 2008 2:02PM I'm holding off judgment until I see a few shows. I thought the first few episodes of the US Office were too hamfisted, but I love it now. We've got so little to go on what this show will be like.
I'm also a little worried about the UK Top Gear. The Africa episode was truly epic, one of the most entertaining pieces of television ever put together. Also, the Peel P50 was one of the most hilarious bits they've ever done. The problem is after Africa the show it felt a little flat like they had blown their production budget. Part of it is the hardship of living up to their own success, but they've lost a bit of the easy going feel from back when Hammond's hair didn't come from Project Runway.
Seeing as everyone is naming their ideal host I'd love to see Letterman cross network lines. I think Dave is a better interpretation of a US Clarkson then Jay is. Just ask Bobby Rahal about Letterman's car guy cred.

Mar 27th 2008 3:14PM L.Wood, take your own advice and "lighten up". When you start throwing terms like "mass suicide" you now become the #1 nut job on the blog, even if you're trying to be satirical.
Flying everyone to CR probably does as much environmental as a gallon of gas in the lake. I'm sure everyone agrees it's best to avoid jumping mx bikes and their fluids in a lake, but I think it's worth it this time to see Travis ride on water like Jesus himself.
What's the deal with Porsches? Seinfeld's 911 up for sale {Autoblog}
Mar 27th 2008 12:56PM Does the seller say if the 15k Johnsonrod inspection was carried out by a qualified Porsche technician?
Also, Seinfeld owned cars are known to have an unbearable and everlasting odor that may account for it frequently trading hands. Buyer beware.
