Consumer Reports joins the auto blogosphere {Autoblog}
Apr 30th 2006 10:30AM Not a Buick buyer myself, Tom Design, so wouldn't have read that review sucks big time! "Unfortunately, rear-seat room is tight, with meager knee and head room." Altima and Honda rear seats are smaller even, and get rave reviews??? What's up with C-R? That's seriously biased pro-Asian. Though slightly smaller than the Buick, the Honda review says "cabin is roomy."

Apr 26th 2006 11:55PM Joey (Kev) => The European made cars (including all German) are way below the U.S. cars who are just below the Asian cars...in both quality & reliability results from two research companies. The only European car that was near the Japanese, above the U.S.,is the Audi A4. All other Audis and all other German cars were well below the U.S. made cars. The Germans are not recovering as fast as the U.S. manufacturers in build quality levels set by the Asians. Maybe in a few years the European cars will get with it, but this isn't a quick fix, as you can imagine. But if U.S. cars are almost nudging the Asian built for quality, the Germans won't be too far behind, maybe 2-5 years.
Toyota recalls new Camry for transmission issue {Autoblog}
Apr 26th 2006 8:09PM Bob => You have to expand your "obligatory" GM bash joke. It's now in good company with these cars with four speed automatics:
- All Scions: Xa, Xb and Tc
- Most Toyotas: Celica, Echo, Highlander, Matrix, RAV4, and Corolla
- Most Subarus: Impreza, Outback, Legacy, Baja, and Forester
- Big selling Nissans: Altima, Sentra
- Most Hyundais: Accent, Elantra, Tiburon, Sonata, SantaFe and Tucson
- Mazda 3i, and 5
- Both Isuzus
- Ford Crown Vic, E-Vans, Excursion, Expedition, F-150, Focus Wagon, and Freestar
- Chrysler 300, Pacifica, Sebring, Town & Country
- Volkswagon Golf
- And some GM models
I hate flamers without facts. All cars have flaws. Wait, is a 4-speed automatic a flaw? That's an argument that has been well discussed on Autoblog, and, "no" seemed to be the answer by the experts.

Rabbit Redux - Volkswagen revives '70s badge {Autoblog}
Apr 11th 2006 6:11PM They better dip into something that was an ad success, because their image doesn't relate to anyone. The "folks" in the folks wagon, aren't to found. Chevy Cobalt, Ford Focus, Civic, Subaru Impreza, Scion TC, and the Hyundai/Kia phirranha's have pretty much edged VW out of the young, hip market. What have they been thinking? That horrible Audi cloned nose, the tacky ads picking a little monster over the hot chick, the very geekoid androgynous white guy? What image are we looking for here? The company's a mess. They do need the Polo here, to maybe save them, good idea! Let's go back to the gay guys driving around together, that was less offensive than what we've seen lately from their marketers. But, maybe when your designers have ruined the car so much, you just can't market the thing. Too bad, I always liked the Golf/Jetta line. I saw a Passat the other day, and it's so vertical and narrow I couldn't help but wonder what it's roll-over factor was? What is wrong with this company? they were so hot for a decade and a half? It's sad when your last 90's Golf chasis displaying a 50's retro designed, New Beetle is the best you have to offer in a trendy fast moving market. Seems like Audi may have spoiled VW's sense of itself.
GM cuts loose Isuzu {Autoblog}
Apr 11th 2006 5:57PM GM salvaged another company to get it's truck building expertise. Isuzu couldn't build world cars, and just was a drain. GM is free of this burden, and can still get good diesel engines from Isuzu, about all they could do. God, I remember their horrible cars and their worse ads. Maybe they'll do better in China. GM is finally getting its act together, but it's taken a long time. 35 years with this bad-imaged company was way too long. Yeah, we'll see big changes from Isuzu, right...don't hold your breath.
