APS builds 557 hp twin-turbo setup for Pontiac G8 GT {Autoblog}

May 12th 2008 3:42PM I just checked their website. The turbos they're using are rated at 50lbs/min @18psi of boost, each.

That dyno chart is the system only pushing 7psi, and probably about 30lbs/min of airflow per turbo. There's a LOT more power to be had. It'd probably be advisable to build the motor though :)

May 11th 2008 1:48AM I'm speechless.... I have two groups of friends in the race. My condolences to everyone.

May 7th 2008 2:43PM Looks like it definitely has some power based on how much the rear end is squatting in the pics.

Vauxhall VXR8 gets LS3 V8 {Autoblog}

May 6th 2008 1:08PM That's a badass looking car... better than the Pontiac IMO. Last I checked, gas is over $8 a gallon over there, but anyone buying this car is not going to care about gas prices.

May 5th 2008 4:23PM Good luck trying to get it under 3000lbs. Even a Honda Civic weighs that much now.

Corvette ZR1 engineer says GT-R won't be King of the 'Ring for long {Autoblog}

May 2nd 2008 4:25PM Naggs, you can optimize for most tracks (like you wouldn't take your F1 Monaco setup to Spa), but I'm saying it's not really possible for the 'Ring. It has pretty much every extreme of cornering speed, elevation changes and road surface quality, how do you 'optimize' for that? I've drove it last September, I do have a feel for what the track is like.

Heck, a car optimized for auto-x would not do well on a road course, etc.

May 2nd 2008 1:37PM Whynot, I'm not sure how you think you can 'optimize' for the 'Ring. If by 'optimize', you mean make a better track car, sure. Give it more power, give it more grip, cut off weight and make it handle. Yup, those things do make them less usuable for everyday use.

I've driven the 'Ring and it has a monster straight, short straights, low speed chicanes, high speed sweeps, off-camber corners, on-camber corners, dips in the braking zones, patched concrete sections, billard table smooth sections. If a car can haul ass there, it'll haul ass anywhere.

It's not exactly like an oval where you can really optimize by running staggered tires, staggered spring rates, etc.

Continental jumps into turbocharger business {Autoblog Green}

May 1st 2008 11:41AM The pathway of turbos allowing for better fuel economy is exactly the downsizing of the base motor.

No one needs a 3.5L motor making 300hp 100% of the time; it's probably more on the order of 1%. So you can take a 2.0L motor and turbocharge it to make the same power for when the driver wants it, but it'll use less fuel the other 99% of the time, like when you're idling in traffic.

VIDEO: Gran Turimso creator takes the GT-R up to 193 mph {Autoblog}

Apr 30th 2008 8:24PM Except for people actually know how to drive in Germany; slow in the right, pass on the left. I've driven on the Autobahn and when I came back to LA, I just about wanted to shoot myself driving on ANY highway around here because of all the idiot left lane cruisers.

I'd say the 'average' traffic flow right around 80-85 mph on the autobahn, and then the left lane is just a free for all. As long as you only use the left lane for passing and cruise in the right, no problems at all, even with cars doing 180+ mph.
