Black Friday GPS deals: Consumer Reports maps 'em out {Autoblog}

Nov 21st 2007 11:31AM It think they can be incredibly useful in rental cars, or for salespeople. They may even be a good band aid for those who have no planning ability whatsoever.

For the rest of us, they are cool toys with limited actual utility, and we all know how much we like cool toys. This being said, I'm not about to get one unless it's priced as a toy (dirt cheap).

They are easy for the GPS companies to market as it's easy to develop a percieved need in todays luxury based markeplace. - Don't get lost - Don't end up in the ghetto - No need to persue the bourgeois practice of figuring out where you need to go before you begin your journey.

A shotgun does not a lug wrench make - Darwin contestant {Autoblog}

Nov 16th 2007 11:33AM It's a play off poet Richard Lovelace's quotation: "Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage. "

Either you need more edumacation or you need to watch more Bugs Bunny (How I first became familiar with the quote). Bugs says: "Iron bars do not a prison make, but they sure do help eh doc?!!!"

Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon hybrids get a price: $50,490 - $53,775 {Autoblog}

Nov 14th 2007 3:37PM As usual I find it comical that people who visit this site daily to salivate over X from Mercedes, Y from BMW, and Z from Lexus are somehow offended at the gaul of GM to ask 50K for a Tahoe... You folks forget that not everyone desires the same things in life as you do. Should automotive choice rely on need only, entire lines as well as entire car companies would go out of business. Chairman Mao-uh-I-mean-Clinton demands K cars with airbags for all the workers...

If you bash GM over their SUVS but crave the latest German luxo-sports sedan, you are a hypocrite. If you bash GM because of their truck division, yet praise Toyota because of their environmental stewardship (while being blind to their own truck segment), you are also a hypocrite. If you are here from Autobloggreen to show the merits of your 52mpg '87 Civic HF, you have lost your way but at least you are not a hypocrite.

Embargo, emshmargo: Cadillac Escalade Hybrid released into the wild {Autoblog}

Nov 8th 2007 1:06PM You got it! I'm not an Escalade fan simply because luxury trucks don't work for me. However, to see owning an Escalade as some type of environmental crime, while worshiping similarly thirsty vehicles is quite hypocritical. If MB put a similar system into the G or GL class, people would be wetting their pants at how advanced MBs engineering is while touting their environmental responsibility.

I respect and even accept criticism from true environmentals, but dispise 'imagentialists'.

Europeans get new Nemo and Bipper compact commercial vans {Autoblog}

Oct 4th 2007 5:19PM Oh man, another America hating comment! You're so quick to bash that you missed that the 'greedy American' persona doesn't really apply in this case. Seriously, why not save it until an example arises where it has a thread of truth.

This is a commercial van! I know of nobody who has EVER purchased a commercial van of any type that didn't use it as a serious hauler or mobile workshop. They are not desired by anyone not coveting those abilities. Perhaps in your world all commercial vans are driven by florists, but plumbers, electricians, etc... literally drive their parts supply around with them. Carpet installers routinely tax 1 ton suspensions.

Unless you're reading trade rags, you'll never even see an ad for a panel van...

Six states testing pay-as-you-drive system {Autoblog}

Sep 25th 2007 11:32AM The gas tax was enacted to provide money to fund transportation infastructure. To me as a fiscal conservative, this is actually NOT offensive at its core as it's got to be paid for somehow, and the users should pay for it. For that matter, neither are taxes specific to weight, as greater weight does greater damage. What is offensive is waste, spending that money elsewhere, and people trying to spin things as 'sin' taxes.

It's funny how so many people are willing to parse and tax to achieve their own political goals, but stand like Patrick Henry when they feel 'screwed' by someone doing the same thing to them. For example, I've got some co-workers that would support every manner of tax to get me to really pay dearly for my trucks (fuel tax, higher property tax, environmental impact tax, etc...). However, they would become irate upon suggesting an 'efficiency surcharge' on power bills above $X or $Y because they live in turn of the Century row houses, or in 4000sqft McMansions.
