Toyota tops big company CAFE ratings for 2007 model year with 29.69 mpg {Autoblog}

Jul 25th 2008 1:17PM Tell me why I should care?

When I buy a vehicle, I buy what I LIKE and fuel economy is second. As long as it's not outrageous (under 15) I could care less.

Ford cancels planned third shift for crossovers at Oakville plant {Autoblog}

Jul 23rd 2008 1:21PM Funny, it gets 24 MPG roughly the same as my G35 sedan. Yet there is a "stigma" attached to it. Funny things.

Not to mention the knee-jerk reaction to get out of SUVs. So you trade a paid off or barely paid off vehicle (or even worse upside down) for 4-6 more year of payments? Please. The amount of sunk money is insane and would pay for lots of $5 gas.

iPhone 3G shortage could last for a month {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 18th 2008 9:45PM "just go to The Cube. the line moves quick there, and they have enough in stock where you can go at any time - since, in fact, they are open at any time!"

I thought that as well when I was in line in Paramus. I was about to give up and just go there at 2am. But the guy behind me said he called and they told him that they do stop selling the phones at some time at night. So I just waited another 2 hours.

Jul 18th 2008 9:41PM That's because a lot of the older chargers used Firewire and all the new stuff needs USB.

My iGo tip was the same thing - just went to AT&T and got another one that was compatible.

Try a newer one that's for the iPhone or 2G Nano or touch.

Jul 17th 2008 10:03PM My 3.5 hour wait wasn't that bad and the prize at the end was worth the wait. In the 5 days since I got it I already can't be without it. It has been one of the best gadgets I've bought in a long time.

What happened: AT&T on iTunes activation problems {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 15th 2008 3:08PM Did anyone stop to think that maybe AT&T placed their orders for iPhones from Apple and that maybe, just maybe they didn't order enough? Seems funny that Apple would lopside distribution of their hottest item.

I will agree that Apple's stock on the web page needs updated and overhauled badly but other than that, it wasn't a bad launch. Anticipating demand for 1 million of anything in 3 days is a little hard.

Should've bought a Garmin? Testing the iPhone 3G's GPS capabilities {Autoblog}

Jul 14th 2008 5:11PM "Oh and I agree his 20D (8MP? 10MP?) blows the 10D out of the water also. But if you listen to the megapixel myth folks (on here or elsewhere), more MP not only isn't better, it makes it worse due to worse signal to noise (as the "buckets" get smaller, each gets fewer photons)."

Actually it doesn't. I've shot both and the 10D will hold its own in the IQ arena compared to the 20D. In fact the only area the 20d is superior was in startup/shutdown times.

And now I'm in the Nikon camp (D300) so could care less - this cam trumps them alll (10/20/30/40d)

Uncertain future for Ford's RWD vehicles, more EcoBoost on the way {Autoblog}

Jul 14th 2008 11:50AM Probably is less efficient but not that bad.

Just got back from a long 1k mile road trip. 2004 G35 sedan 6MT (RWD) and averaged 26MPG through the hills of Vermont. Was ticking around 27MPG on the level highway.

This was all reported on the factory nav screen.

RWD can and does rock - great handling, 260HP in a platform that will ourtun most cars on the road and decent economy.

Love it!

First Drive: 2009 Nissan Maxima {Autoblog}

Jun 21st 2008 8:01AM I don't remember there being this "large failure rate with the CVT". From what I remember from the Murano there were some programming issues, but the transmissions themselves are relatively reliable. Most of these issues were with the 03 models.....

I'd not be put off from a car with a CVT in it - maybe just get the extended warranty.

Nissan's diesel Maxima may be manual only {Autoblog}

Jun 16th 2008 9:22PM "you realize that some people have knee problems and live in a city, right? i know how to drive a manual, i just prefer not to?

Knee problems, yes. City traffic? Cry me a river. I commuted in NYC traffic for 4 years with a stick. Didn't bother me a second.

"I have yet to see someone who shifts faster than an auto, or drives his manual to favor fuel economy (4th gear at 80KMPH when you could be in fifth and drop your RPM by 1500 AND save fuel? Where's the logic behind that?)."

Look up pumping loss. Sometimes it's better to be in a lower gear at high RPM rather than high gear at low RPM with the pedal to the floor.
