Lawyer pays $350K for Batman Forever Batmobile {Autoblog}
Sep 5th 2006 6:55PM The tobacco settlement paid billions to lawyers all over the country. Some money trickled down to state governments where it was squandered, and in theory, tobacco companies cannot be sued again for deaths or illness caused by their products. It hasn't worked that way, but that was one of the reasons they paid billions to settle. Coincidently, John Edwards, late of the Kerry/Edwards ticket, got rich from this fiasco as well.

Sep 4th 2006 12:06PM Mix Lucas electrics with Pinto gas tanks and you have a self emolating Jaguar. Have you exploded a Ford lately?
Harley-Davidson developing three-wheelers {Autoblog}
Sep 2nd 2006 6:48PM Strip off the fairing, the windshield, the running boards (!?!?!), the orthopedic back rest, the chrome, the hideous box in the back, make all three wheels match, preferably spokes, paint it a flat grey or blue to match the originals, run some straight pipes, and you might be getting closer to what the old ones were all about. Where I used to live, Bummy Bumgardner used to ride one in the late 60s - that was a nice ride. Quirky, but nice. And think how nice it would be to pull up to a stoplight and not have to balance the weight of a hog on gimpy old legs. Nahhh, I'm still not going to get one...
Consumer Reports ranks Porsche 911 best performance car {Autoblog}
Sep 1st 2006 3:45PM Then you have the Autoblog writers write "although it had the distinction of being the fastest vehicle to sprint to 60 MPH..." - that's some fine automotive journalism right there - how about "quickest", as the end result was all the cars were going 60 MPH.
Maybe this should be Toasterblog...
New seat belts resemble racing harnesses {Autoblog}
Aug 31st 2006 7:31PM I read an article back in the 70s that said "if the government was truly concerned with motorist's safety, cars would all have roll cages, 5 point harnesses, fire suppression systems and drivers would have to wear a helmet." Think of the horrific NASCAR crashes you have seen where the driver walks away after the vehicle stops flipping. Ok, the whole crawling through the window thing might be offputting to some owners, but not all of us. ;^)
The VW Westfalia reborn! {Autoblog}
Aug 29th 2006 8:44PM I like it, other than the fact that the driver would be the first one on the scene of the accident. Having a bit more crush space and mass in front would be good things, but style trumps all, no?
Tuner Tuesday: ASMA Design S-Class Eagle I {Autoblog}
Aug 29th 2006 12:59PM The changes to the exterior of that automobile have not improved its looks. Has anyone done a headcount at GM to see if they are missing some of their "designers"?
And when is the promised editor going to arrive at this site? The writing is still atrocious - words cannot want. Come on - try and listen to English as it is spoken. Or better yet, try to read a book or some other printed material. Some of the concepts may sink in.
'57 Chevy for sale again 50 years later {Autoblog}
Aug 22nd 2006 11:05AM When one purchases such a car, what does one really have? A brand new '57 Chevy, or in the case of Brookville, a brand new '32 Ford Coupe? Since neither was made by their respective manufacturer, they are faux cars. Ersatz-mobiles. Sure they look like the originals, but so do fiberglass reproductions. So they are made out of steel - with regards to rust, that's not necessarily an improvement. Far be it from me to suggest where one should spend one's money, but these repros seem a bit odd. They have no history (other than the firewall of the '57), no cachet of being part of a larger group of cars, but exist only for nostalgia's sake. As the great American philospher said "Nostalgia ain't what it used to be."
I guess the retro design movement will continue unabated until we all own 1886 Benz tricycles, with A/C and hybrid drive. But I could be wrong about that.
Jeep passes on producing Gladiator concept {Autoblog}
Aug 21st 2006 9:12PM I am clearly out of step - I have a business need for a small pickup truck, and would have really liked the idea of being able to buy one with a folding top, four wheel drive and Jeep heritage. Oh well, more's the pity...
