2010 Pontiac G8 ST may get direct-inject V6 {Autoblog}
Aug 20th 2008 1:32PM I still don't understand why more automatic gears are better, other than some kind of marketing tactic.
As far as I can tell, slush boxes are usually in the wrong gear at the wrong time (i.e. when you need the power to accelerate), and adding more gears just increases the chance you'll be in the wrong gear.
In my 07 Mazda3 they upped the auto gears to 5 , 1 over the 06's 4 gears. It's cruses at 40mph in 5th gear with absolutely no power. If you smash the gas (and you have to push it far), how does it know how much power, and what gear you want? It doesn't do it well.
And both cars are rated 25/31 mpg, so there's no gain in fuel economy from more gears.
I'd just like someone to explain how this "more gears are better" has perpetrated.

Automakers using more plastic to reduce weight and emissions {Autoblog}
Aug 20th 2008 10:41AM You're on to something Matt. The biggest factor in global CO2 emissions is population, especially population of high energy consuming nations like the US.
Although killing people would effectively reduce CO2 emissions, I'm not sure it would be a politically feasible energy policy.

Aug 14th 2008 5:27PM How about a EcoBoost 2.0L instead? There's a limited market for 3.5L turbo front drivers with 300+ horsepower. I bet a smaller 2.0L with 200+ hp and a fat torque curve would sell well (and maybe compete with Audi, which has that market to themselves).

Aug 14th 2008 5:22PM Maybe they'll finally retire the old, inefficient 3.0L from the (original) Taurus and update it with Ford's new 3.5L.
Mazda adding 'premium' touches to all models {Autoblog}
Aug 12th 2008 11:41AM My Mazda3 has xenon headlights, a feature many cars north of $30k do not have.
I paid about $20k for mine. I consider it one of the best (if not the best) values out there.
I like to compare it to the Acura TSX - they both have very similar feature levels, yet the 3 costs $10k less. Plus, Consumer Reports lists the 3 as one of the most reliable small cars, in addition to the TSX. CR also has the 3 with a faster 0-60 time than the TSX. I test drove both before my purchase, and the 3 handles much better.

Aug 11th 2008 12:46PM Six Sigma is the biggest bunch of BS ever. Business consultants have replicated it across the corporate world and applied it to areas nothing related to manufacturing. It's purely buzz, and it's sad to see Ford hyping this. I thought they were better than GM.
That said they should always focus on quality (Job 1, right?), and improving it. Ultimately, the products speak for themselves.

So what deals are you running to clear the 2008 inventory? Financing? Cash back? +over invoice?
What quantifiable means can you tell "The Event" is any different than other parts of the year.

Aug 5th 2008 4:39PM Good time to buy a Lexus?
They currently have "The Event" going on, whatever that means. Previous "Events" such as the "December to Remember Sales Event" give no details about any deals they might be offering. They must have decided simplifying is in order.
Why are they one of the few (only?) makes that does not put dealer inventory on their website? (BMW and Audi do.) I think they're doing some voodoo to our minds.
