Did CARB kill the electric car? {Autoblog}
May 19th 2008 11:46PM One more:
4) They weren't sure if they would be a rogue success or failure, and they were scared to find out.
I know people still driving their RAV4 EVs, and they love them. Which generates bad will toward Honda for canceling it.
I don't think GM expected a whole movie about the EV1 -- they figured they could quickly make it disappear. Just like Bush figured Iraq would be a quick slam dunk.
But... I still think #1 is the big reason. I bet you GM's lawyers said, "make the EV1 go away". Everywhere I've worked, lawyers always have the last word over engineers.

May 19th 2008 6:54PM Wow, printing sure seems to be messed up.
Print selection seems to always print blank pages. Even regular print gives me 1 good page, then skips a page. Very strange.

May 19th 2008 5:07PM I'm confused too -- what is the difference? One is for Linux, one is for Windows?
So basically 2 names for the same thing, a Linux name and a Windows name? Um, OK.

May 17th 2008 1:02PM Just a note: FF3 uses a different history file (a .mdb file, vs. the old history.dat). So if you run FF3, then go back to FF2, you won't see your FF3 browsing under FF2.
Not a big deal, but might be confusing if you switch back and forth.

May 16th 2008 12:41PM Antiphorm complains that DirectX 9.0c is not installed. But I run dxdiag, and my version is 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)! Must be a bug.
The message Antiphorm shows is: "DirectX Error" -> "DirectX 9.0 installed (589824). Requires DirectX 9.0c (December 2005) or later."

May 14th 2008 1:46PM I guess with ERUNT, you can schedule it to run more often than system restore.
One surprise I had with XP System Restore -- when ANY drive fills up, system restore turns off! It may also delete old restore points when this happens -- not sure.
I looked one day, and I had 0 restore points. One rarely-used drive had < 30 MB free -- not even my C: drive. Annoying. Let's hope XP SP3 fixes this.

May 14th 2008 12:34AM OK, I ran NTREGOPT, and it saved me 3%.
I have to say, it was a bit unnerving. While running, my machine froze for over 60 seconds! I was about to hit the reset button, but then suddenly it un-froze and continued. Good thing I was patient. Kind of a scary app -- no warnings, no pause/cancel button, just hope it finishes.

May 4th 2008 12:43PM Merging 2 giant companies almost never works, so I see this as good for competition. A combined Microsoft/Yahoo would have moved even more slowly.
This bullet item from the press release was interesting:
"enhanced expense and resource management to support improved profitability."
Um, how exciting -- does that mean more layoffs?
