Jun 13th 2008 7:12PM It's interesting, but the car is ugly. Very, very ugly. Nevertheless, it raises interesting questions... along with unnecessary ones (winking headlights?).

Um, ever heard of a release form? It indemnifies the producers of a show from liability in the eventuality you get seriously hurt. Typically, they have you fully checked out to make sure you're fit enough for something like that, then insured to cover any potential mishap.
Besides, have you seen the ads for "Wipeout" on ABC, coming this summer?

Jun 13th 2008 9:58AM And you are certain she wasn't getting the job done - the job she was hired for - based on... what exactly?
The notion of a "man's job" is anachronistic. A job fundamentally has no gender requirements, 99 times out of 100. If a person meets the job requirements, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, political affiliation or religious conviction, they should have a fair shot at winning the job. Period.
There is no job in NASCAR a woman can't do. None. So let's give that "man's job" rhetoric a rest.
(By the way, your skills of analogy are atrocious. Hiring a woman to work the pits in NASCAR is not analogous to having women run alongside men at the Olympics - the latter of which is not impossible, anyway: look at tennis' mixed doubles. If the criteria of the job or competition are defined, and I guarantee you that pit crew job definitions do not include gender or race requirements, then anyone who meets the requirements is eligible.)

Jun 11th 2008 7:13PM She won't get $250 million. Her lawyers know that.
The $250 million figure will include her legal fees, most likely, and is a number floated because the US supports the notion of *punitive* damages - ie, the figure is to hurt NASCAR both financially and in terms of PR. Let's move past the $250 million, eh?
Incidentally, CNN International is running a week-long investigative series titled "Racism in Sports" next week. Feel free to think it doesn't exist and isn't institutional.

Jun 6th 2008 4:50PM Welcome to the beginnings of the post-national economy.
Seriously. The days when companies were uniquely identified as "American" or "British" or "German" are almost over; car companies have been fairly promiscuous with parts, platforms and supplies for decades, anyway, so it's now just seeping up to the branding.
The only people who care are those holding on to memories of shattered empires (read: the British, and increasingly the Americans). The rest of us just like cool cars.

How's about Autoblog requires a minimum of a physical clay model before they highlight anyone's "unveiled" new design (with the exception of auto manufacturers and proven tuners, of course)? Three vehicles hyped on Autoblog... and he's studying International Hotel Management?
I draw better than he does. I'll start sending Autoblog my own "designs," and I expect to be headlined the same way!

Mar 25th 2008 1:07AM Only you hardcore auto junkies are feeling the overexposure. I'm an intermittent Autoblogger, and I haven't seen or heard a thing about the Camaro since... the last time I was on an auto blog.
The general public will not have the same fatigue you will. Draw your conclusions from that as you will.
Microsoft sees in-car advertising coming {Autoblog}
Mar 7th 2008 4:46PM It totally depends on execution, but I've shifted to a pretty anti-advertising philosophy, so I think it's a bad idea.
It could work if the ads are unobtrusive - a muted note indicating that a nearby store has a promotion, for instance, accompanied by the store's logo appearing on the navigation system. If I'm not using the navigation, though, and am listening to my music, DON'T YOU DARE interrupt it for advertising.
If I don't use any functions and the SYNC is just sitting in the car, then I shouldn't have to listen to or see any ads - will there be support for this? I can see the idea leading to horrible execution, so I say, "no, thanks." If I want upt-to-date content, I'll pay for it in a subscription.
(How about an option for SYNC using my bluetooth-enabled phone as a modem?)
