Kia engineers specific smells just for Europeans {Autoblog}

Our Kia Sportgage is now 3 years old and still (suffers!) from their new car smell. Hmmmm.

New York 2008: Kia debuts 2009 Optima {Autoblog}

Mar 20th 2008 1:58PM "The 2009 Optima is presented with new front, side and rear styling cues, which build upon Kia's philosophy of creating dynamic vehicles that evoke passion." (press release)

Uh, what exactly about the Optima's new looks are supposed to make me feel "passion"? The only passion I am feeling is compassion - for the one who buys one of these awful looking sedans that, unfortunately, lack any visual passion whatsoever. That's a shame for what is said to be a fine vehicle and for a fine automotive brand overall. There's more "passion" in a Rio, Sportage or Sedona than this thing!

Irony: Red light cameras a safety impediment {Autoblog}

Mar 14th 2008 1:20PM Here in Texas, at least some cities are coming to their senses and getting rid of these. Yee-haw! Hope the rest of our cities follow in Lubbock's bootsteps.

Chicago 2008: Hyundai rolls out 2009 Sonata {Autoblog}

Feb 7th 2008 1:59PM I'm glad someone else besides me is taking notice of this, it's a bad move. Sure it might look 'cool' to some and reduce(?) some costs but even just the other day on the freeway home from work, I almost ran into a new Santa Fe (Picking on Hyundai) that out of the corner of my eye could not tell it had it's RED turn signal on. Like Hyundai and Kia, but won't buy the models with the red signal.

Please take note Hyundai - bad design move.

VW also planning engine, transmission plant in the U.S. {Autoblog}

Jan 24th 2008 2:19PM VW Quality? My 1999 VW Passat (built in Deutschland) COULD have 165,000 miles on it, and it COULD have been the best car I've ever owned, and it COULD have been the envy of all my neighbors for such a reliable, fun-to-drive, great looking automobile.

But because it was mfg. by a company that could care less about the end user, and supported by a dealer network that tells you (i.e. service mgr, to be specific) "this vehicle tends to have many quality problems, you might contact the mfg. in Germany", it no longer is around.

VW has all the looks and feel (just take a drive!) of quality vehicles, but they are nothing more than a conglomeration of reengineered matter that now becomes a waste of expensive materials that could have been used by a company that knows how to build a reliable vehicle!
