I actually live in Bogotá.
And let me tell you that it’s a FACT that: Public transportation + bicycles + sidewalks in Cities are the answer.
Sadly, for many reasons, my country is not wealthy. So a solution for most people (90%) is not a car. Many people need decent, fast, clean and safe means of transport. This also applies in rich cities whit little space.
It´s VERY stupid to think that the problem can be solved investing on more roads. If you give people alternatives like: decent public transport, very good sidewalks and bicycle paths, even people whit cars -like myself- start to use them, because its cheaper and nicer (by the way, no problem whit my Chevy Corsa). That way you are FREE to use the one you like .
It´s a shame that a few narrow-minded Americans give a very bad image of their country.
