Babygate: Porsche CEO's hotel room bugged with baby monitor {Autoblog}
Apr 28th 2008 10:09AM I think FAR more interesting than the baby monitor is the fact that he's having his room pre-swept for bugs by a private security team.
Clearly, in this case, whoever was trying to spy on him was some cut-rate hack. Probably hired by Chris Bangle...

Aw Snap! Honda ASIMO robot to conduct Detroit Symphony Orchestra {Autoblog}
Apr 24th 2008 8:37AM Ha! Exactly, what a big, old skool F You to the Big Three, a robot conducting the DSO mere blocks from GM HQ...
I've seen the DSO a few times and they're good, but I still have absolutely NO clue what a conductor is actually supposed to be doing, so I can't say whether a robot can do it or not. Though, the ABSOLUTELY, must dress it up as Mozart...
Oh yeah, and AB, Yo-Yo Ma plays the cello... (Hint: Wikipedia is your friend...)
Audi unveils updated A3 {Autoblog}
Apr 24th 2008 8:30AM Here's a question... why in hell are the rear ends so different between the two models? The rear lights of the S3 are a la current A4, which I like, but the A3's rear lights are just.... blah... How can it possibly make any sort of production sense to make such a drastically different back end. Not only is the hatch lid different, but the rear quarter panels are too. Seems like a lot of extra work.
Though, it might be exciting if this means that Audi is going to start further differentiating the S-models from their A counterparts.
Oh yeah, and bring a 3-door S to the States... it's about the only thing that could replace my GTI...

Apr 17th 2008 12:30PM And furthermore, as a long time VW owner, I'll be the first to admit that the VW dealer experience is far below what it needs to be to service a 60k+ vehicle. Hell, until recently, it wasn't even good enough to push a 30k+ vehicle.
Beyond the badge consciousness issues, if VW is ever to make a car of this caliber successful in the States, they'll need to drastically improve their dealer network.
I think VW vastly underestimates the importance of this factor, though there are signs that this is changing, albeit slowly. When I picked up my 08 GTI, they had a whole mini-course plus a DVD on the top IQS (initial quality) problems on the GTI (ie, how to the windshield wipers work, how do I program my nav, etc). Increased importance in addressing IQS issues is a start, but to really make it happen they need to work on they need to focus on a better experience on the Fixed Ops side, and a Saturn-like "No Haggle" For the People Sales initiative...
VIDEO: Heidi Klum and her LoveBug {Autoblog}
Apr 8th 2008 12:34PM Say what you want about VW's vehicles, but their advertising is consistently some of the best in the business. When they were with Arnold, they put out some seriously good ads that captured the feeling of being a VW owner and driving it ‘round the twisties, as opposed to the car’s features. Funny, memorable, emotional, epic – from the late 90’s until 2005, they were unstoppable… But Arnold started to get stale (and one might argue, so did VW). Now that they are under Crispen Porter (who also does Mini ) they’ve spiced things up again, which is good. Sales are improving, and their doing the only thing you can do to combat a negative image: trot out Heidi Klum. Somehow, she makes that busted heat shield in your Passat into one hell of a good memory.
